Default Tiptronic and PDK Transmissions

Sorry if this has been posted before. I didn't search. Just found the reading interesting, although somewhat poorly written in my opinion.

I never realized that PDK has been around almost as long as Tiptronic. It appears Tiptronic was a stop-gap effort until Porsche could iron out the bugs in PDK.

Gotta love this description of the early race PDKs...

"...the PDK was only reliable in the sense that it would reliably explode every so often, chucking shafts, gears, actuators, and the like all over the racetrack. It’s said that each time Porsche tracked down a problem and fixed it, something new went wrong."

LOL, that explains why it took so long for the street version.

Yea, I thought that was pretty funny. But I gained a new appreciation for tiptronic. Seems it gave Porsche the 10-15 years it needed to perfect PDK. Pretty much the 964 through the 996.

Don't you mean 997.1's? The .1's had Tips.
