Are all 996TT OEM exhausts the same
***Sorry for a redundant thread. I asked admin to move it here from the 996 forum.
Are all factory 996TT exhausts interchangeable for 2001-2005 TT cars, even though they have different part numbers? They look nearly identical.

Don’t fool yourself. There is only one exhaust part for the 2002-2005 TT/TTS/GT2. I doubt they’d make the same part different for different models. Any sound difference is imagined or due to other upstream components. If you flash a regular TT, the same stock exhaust will sound different too.

yeah? identify for me the difference, other than price and part numbers. thanks in advance.
for, there is NO difference internally.
ok, yes.. and no. there's this. "Except for mufflers with less backpressure, the GT2 exhaust system is essentially the same as in the 911 Turbo. The exhaust system also contributes to the lower emissions of the 911 GT2. The short exhaust manifolds use two-layer air-gap construction with minimal pipe length to the turbochargers. The short exhaust route minimizes energy loss before entering the turbos, ensuring minimal turbo “lag” for quick response."
my x50 car had no different ( gt2 ) exhaust and also never had "quick response". whatever. it's the same lol.

Bottomline is there are only 2 parts or mufflers, either one can be used on all the turbo based cars. There is no variant just for the X50 or TTS. The w/GT2 version is actually cheaper. I think after 2002, some X50/TTS may have been assembled with the w/GT2 or 996-111-987-xx muffler. The owner will never know which one, even with the X50 tips. Makes .0001 difference anyway. But I know to some the X50 tips will make the car sound better even when the keys are out.

^ appreciate that reasonable explanation.
agree also. faux split x50 exhaust tips sound better. keys out and engine off. they are paired, and are well suited, to the increased performance of this x50/gt2 exhaust. lmao

looks like the turbo version has 4 previous updates with supersede numbers. If no diff wonder why the two part numbers and price delta between the two. What ever the diff minor or not I’m sure there’s one.
