Jag R's are actually kind of cheap on the used market...

I brought a e90 m3 to compliment the 996tt as well. But both cars are so much better bang for buck when you tweak them. E.g. tune, exhaust mods for both cars, dct tune on the m3 and both cars are so much better over stock to drive and coincidentally identical hp out of the factory stock but completely different power delivery. . The 996 tt for me is all about the boost hit. Tweaked e90 M3 na v8 with dct is all about the 3rd to 2nd gear downshift blip. Just a view but on a limited budget, and both cars tweaked , probably the best for bang for buck motoring that ticks a heck of a lot of boxes if you only have two garage spots. Plus two sports cars with awesome motors that punches above their weight. E.g. combined, 6 doors, seats nine and getting close to 1000hp with some tweaks without spending huge bucks. ( equivalent spend to a 997tt in my back not the woods.

They are indeed, $100K new, now about half price, I'd say they are a tremendous value. I've got some seat time in an early F-Type R, the RWD model. Fast car no doubt. Makes great sounds. But no match for a tuned 996 turbo on a curvy road...at least not the RWD version. I am not sure if the AWD R handles any better, as it's even heavier, but I'm sure it has more grip.

You'd think so, but speaking as a former motorcycle racer... it wont last as long as you think if you are racing in a series. I think I was spending $1500-2k per event IF i didnt have to repair or replace anything when you factor in consumables, going from track to track, accomodations, etc. Then the off-season updates/maintenance/rebuilds and replacements for the bike to stay competitive next year aren't cheap either..

And not be a Jag... Don't get me wrong a 5l blown V8 is awesome, but I could never get over why, when this car was released, it only has 2 pot sliding calipers up front... All good motors need 4 pots at least...

The 997 is a much more refined car. Worth the money for an upgrade is a tough call. I bought mine from a friend that wanted to move into a 997 GT3 from having the turbo and E46 M3. In stock format the 997 reminded me of being much like my E39 540i with more power and more sporty without intruding on the GT capability of the car. However at the end of the day if I needed to sell one, the 997 would go and I would keep the 996.
