Default Low boost w moaning noise from rear (turbos already rebuilt)

Hi, ok lets get the wife in the rear seats jokes over with first
:-)

My 00 manual turbo was maxing at 0.4 - 0.5 bar and had a blowing exhaust noise when cold. My mechanic said that one turbo was seized and the other leaking, I had them rebuilt w new actuators at a highly regarded turbo shop, and had them refitted. The car made 0.8 bar on a test drive and the exhaust blow was gone.

That was a week ago, now the car is only making 0.5 max again, and when the boost starts to come in at about 0.2 bar I get a faint moaning noise from the rear right of the car. Its actually most like the sound that is made by blowing across the top of an empty beer bottle. It is definitely turbo related and has also happened occasionally in the past before I had the turbos done.

My mechanic is 2 hours away, so can anyone suggest what this might be before I go back there? I am confident the turbos are good, so hopefully should be simple fix?

thanks

It might something simple, like a hose popping off. Look around under there.

Get your mechanic to test the diverter valves. There's quite a few threads regarding moaning / honking DV's just google it.

agree. go with "simplest" first? as failing dv's ( oem's ) can make noise ( honk ) and will certainly limit boost!

funny about the "wife in the jumpers" bit ha

Thanks guys I bet that is it, it is sometimes a honk type noise... I’m on it. I’m sure it is on its original diverter valves too, but not for long.. :-)

OK, research suggests DV highly likely and needs doing anyway.

This is a high value, perfectly engineered car, but these valves seem pretty simple in their construction. So why not these, at 10% of the cost of OEM/forge etc?

If there’s a medication that both improves boost and reduces rear end noise then I’ll take it.
