Hey TB Dyno numbers don't mean crap to me. That is why I participated in the European Car Magazine tt shootout. My car ran 11.2 @ 132 mph in the 1/4 mile with a bad launch. It should do 10's so real world performance is really all I care about. But everyone always wants to know how much hp you have.

Check out the FEB 2004 European Car Magazine article. Not out yet but soon I hope!

TB, you have valid points, but I still believe my car is very fast... even if it is built in the USA.

It is certainly faster than the Ruf R Turbo or the RS Tuning 996 Turbo...

There is no such thing as "the RS Tuning 996 Turbo" - they will build you what you desire (as long as it doesn't need TUV certification) but currently 700hp is the limit for a 996tt and that motor is VERY different from the one in your 996tt.
Protomotive build fast cars, no doubt about that. I have often pondered about why none of the German tuners use Garrett turbos (as you know, they have cutting edge design features) which seem to give better figures all round. I thought it may be a German obsession with supporting their domestic suppliers (although KKK's parent company is now US owned isn't it ?) The conclusion is that whilst the Garretts produce the performance, they will just not stand up to the rigours of autobahn driving, day in day out - this is what sorts out the heavy duty componentry. In Germany you do NOT want to have even 1 failure, rumours of a broken car sitting on the hard shoulder of the autobahn spread very quickly

And, finally, what I like to think as NorthEast’s Big Dogs:

493.8 wheel horsepower, 467.0 wheel torque

490.8 wheel horsepower, 474.60 wheel torque

Courtesy of Todd at AWE:

And, for your argument pleasure, I present a graph of the two winning power curves overlayed.

Who really won? Remember, area under the curve wins!

The load cell technology and software interface of the Mustang Dynamometer that we use (AWD-500-SE) is standard among all high end dynos
On an AWD dyno, is there a FWHP measurement, or are the front rollers there just to let the front wheels roll (i.e. eliminate the need to disconnect the front drive shaft?).

Was everyone running pump gas? I'd be interested in seeing all the torque curves labeled with a list of mods that car had.

All but 1 I'll let him decide if he wants to disclose it

dock,
THe Mustang 4wd dyno has its front rollers mechanically coupled to its rear rollers. This fact allows it to "collect" all available power from the front and rear wheels regardless of front/rear bias.

ebaker,
I was running 100 octane race gas, HOWEVER, my programming is not setup to take advantage of it. $70 down the toilet!

TB there are several tuners and owners that would tell you that 700hp is not the limit with the 996tt.

Todd, Todd, Stephen??? Anyone want to explain this?

I realise that 700hp is not the absolute limit - but for a 996tt which is used on the Autobahn and on the Nurburgring, this is the limit without needing very frequent rebuilds. Also consider that some tuners hp do not manage to give the on road performance which their figures promise: The Techart GT Street rated at 646hp managed 0-300kph in 32.3seconds an RS Tuning GT2 with 542hp took only 28.5 secs - maintaining the dyno rated power on the road/track is what makes a car fast.

Gotcha! Yes there is probably a difference if you want to run the car at full blast on the Autobahn all the time. Unfortuneately that is not possibel in the US!

The Shootout is not in the Feb European Car. There's an S4 shootout in there.
