Faded Cowl
The Cowl (plastic under the wipers) is faded beyond repair. I tried Griots black trim dressing and it came out blotchy at best. It's weird cuz that part is the only black on the car that's in really bad shape. Is this typical? I'm going to replace it and coat it with Aerospace 303.

Use a satin black paint. Makes sure you clean it real well with mineral spirits to get rid of the silione of the back trim dressing. Prior to painting use a plastic paint adhesive then paint.

Mine was also really faded. I just used good old fashioned Mother's Back To Black and it worked fairly well. I did it 3 days in a row to bring it back and now, I wouldn't say it looks brand new, but it's not an eyesore that draws your attention anymore. If you do decide to paint it, please do a DIY, I'd love to see how it turns out and how it looks as a painted item.

I replaced mine with a new one. I'm to much of a perfectionist I guess...

996 TT cowl looks great. 997 TT cowl looks like the car was parked in the Sahara for the past 10 years. Rubber is cracked and pulled away from glass. Wonder if its the same part number? Have to check that.

Yes and provides UV protectant. I apply every couple of weeks to tires, rocker trim, windshield gasket, rear bumper stops. Basically anything with rubber or plastic. Spray liberally on a sponge and go to town. We used it all the time on the boats in the Coast Guard. Best tire prep dressing out there.

I'll have to try it then. I've got several other faded black bits to restore, especially on our '88 E30 convertible.
EDIT: Just ordered a 32 ounce bottle of it for pickup at my local store. $14.32 all in. Definitely worth a try - I have lots of faded gray parts to use it on around my garage.
