Faded Cowl
The Cowl (plastic under the wipers) is faded beyond repair. I tried Griots black trim dressing and it came out blotchy at best. It's weird cuz that part is the only black on the car that's in really bad shape. Is this typical? I'm going to replace it and coat it with Aerospace 303.

Use a satin black paint. Makes sure you clean it real well with mineral spirits to get rid of the silione of the back trim dressing. Prior to painting use a plastic paint adhesive then paint. |

Mine was also really faded. I just used good old fashioned Mother's Back To Black and it worked fairly well. I did it 3 days in a row to bring it back and now, I wouldn't say it looks brand new, but it's not an eyesore that draws your attention anymore. If you do decide to paint it, please do a DIY, I'd love to see how it turns out and how it looks as a painted item.

I replaced mine with a new one. I'm to much of a perfectionist I guess... https://www.sonnenporscheoemparts.co...g2LWdhcw%3D%3D |
I have the same issue. For $67, probably easiest to just replace. Thanks for the link!

996 TT cowl looks great. 997 TT cowl looks like the car was parked in the Sahara for the past 10 years. Rubber is cracked and pulled away from glass. Wonder if its the same part number? Have to check that. |
Spray on some 303 aircraft. This stuff is amazing https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5255edecd4.png |
Tyler - does that 303 stuff turn the gray plastic back to black?

I'll have to try it then. I've got several other faded black bits to restore, especially on our '88 E30 convertible.
EDIT: Just ordered a 32 ounce bottle of it for pickup at my local store. $14.32 all in. Definitely worth a try - I have lots of faded gray parts to use it on around my garage. |

303 is the industry name, so several companies make it. I guess fighter jocks never washed planes! |
