Default Tune Flash

How can I tell if my car has been flashed with a tune? Can I tell with a Durametric cable?

A stock tt will pull a .7 bar, a flashed car will usually hit 1. bar.

...no, you can't tell with a durametric.

As mentioned, you usually can tell by max boost.... Do a sustained third or fourth gear acceleration pull, what does your boost gauge max out at?

I haven't really tried to see how high I can get the boost but I have seen .9. Is there no way to tell other than the boost? Can you tell with the Porsche diagnostic tool?

If you are seeing .9 in casual driving your car has a tune.

Porsche might be able to dig through the ECU and see some telltales of a previous flash, though I'm not sure a typical Porsche tech would know how nor do it for you. More of a 'you modified your car, blew your engine, and now we aren't covering it under warranty' technique back when these cars were under warranty...

But as the alternative is really stone axe simple... Find an empty stretch of highway, put it in third or fourth, floor it at 3K RPM and tell us what the gauge reads. Are you seeing .8 sustained (or lower) with perhaps just the briefest occasional flash to .9? (likely stock). 9 sustained or 1.0 sustained, or higher? (flashed).

All of the above assuming non X-50.

Okay, so I took it out this morning and gave it the floor it in 4th gear test. It hit 1.1 bar so I guess that seals the fact it has a tune. Is there any way to tell who's tune it is or should I just not worry about it? It also has a Gemballa exhaust system on the car.

Stock K16's: 0.7-0.8
Stock K24's: 0.8-0.9 (X50 or S)

These are sustained boost in say 3rd or 4th...not spikes.

Physical inspection of the ECU is a good idea. As soon as I have a nice day I'll have a look.

Unless it was tuned long ago, it was probably flashed through the OBD port and there isn't going to be any sticker on the ECU...

Now that you know it has a tune, the next step might be to datalog the car and let a tuner review the data to see if you are running safely and well. You can do datalogs with a Durametric or with a Cobb tuner.

a mystery tune on a 15 year old car that wasn't causing me issues? i wouldn't go anywhere near the ecu lol. as others have said, assuming your vac system is devoid of any leaks? the boost numbers will tell the tale of this unnamed tune. i enjoyed that show, name that tune.
