I ran my lsd for a year with AWD and it was a huge improvement in stability at the track under braking and accel
Last year I pulled my diff and did uprights and it's a great improvement too.

Gt2 uses steel synchros in lower gears. Which are more resistant over the brass.

correct, improves shift durability... however, the oil pump/cooler is what improves gearbox/gear durability..

It does NOT get a Cup steel synchro in 2nd. It's like a GT3 in that is gets them from 3 and up. So it's not actually the lower gears.

The cooler is more important than the steel sycnchros. With the LSD the added cooling is desired. An LSD will add upwards of 20F to the temps. Since a Wavetrac is a TBD and gear driven it doesn't matter. But a proper Salisbury design with clutches needs cooling.

The lower steel are spendy, did them all a couple years ago along with the rs123 gears, an LSD and every single bearing, a retaining plate and and...get a cooler if you track these!
Easy to spend $10k+ with all new parts if you let it go too long.

Can we use this thread to put to bed the claim that some x50 transmissions got steel synchros? I've seem and heard this from multiple first hand accounts but seems like there is still some grey-area around the official answer.

Gt2 trans gets steel synchros in 3-5 which is the range of more highly used track gears! Gotta question why anyone would question if those are lower gears!

I stepped out of that debate years ago. It just doesn’t matter. When it comes time to rebuild if you track your car use steel. If not use brass. Steel shifts poorly when cold. I wouldn’t use them in my own street car.

Hi All just a quick question , I just got my 996 turbo transaxle back from being rebuilt , has 997 GT2 RS gears and shaft now and wavetrac and GT2 slave added.
I have the slave line, what other parts do I need to complete the reassembly of this , its a 2002 911Turbo. also what is the best fluid to use in this? some track days and a little autocross.
is there any rerouting of the power steering fluid from the old master cylinder that needs to be done? I read up on this a few years ago , when I want ed to do it, but I have forgotten everything..
