How to safely hit top speed?

You don’t need to do anything if the car is up to date, meaning that it has fresh tires etc. Go over them to see if they have any sort of damage, if not...carry on!
I’ve been over 200 mph tacho speed in my stock X50 and it was a blast! It had some more to give but I had to shut down as it was on public roads. (Autobahn)

In addition to what others have said, I'd check to make sure that your wheels are balanced and not bent at all. A slight wheel vibration at high speeds can be very disconcerting. If you have the opportunity to drive the stretch of road beforehand, drive it at a low speed to get some familiarity/comfort with it.
Check out this thread too, maybe reach out to the guy who's done the event you're referring to? https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...en-her-up.html

With proper preparation taking a 996TT to its top speed in a controled enviroment is really not dangerous at all.

He said "moving along at high speed", not moving along at top speed. To keep up with the big boys in the left lane, you have to do ~140-150 mph (when they are going that fast in the unrestricted areas).
Driving at the 996 Turbo's top speed is in fact more dangerous than driving the car at 70 mph, because of who may be behind the wheel of the car. Once one exceeds zero mph, the risk (danger) increases with speed. 200 mph is over 290 feet/sec, and the ability to stay ahead of the car and ahead of the driving arena at that speed isn't something that most people can just step up to and do safely without experience. It takes solid concentration and strong forward thinking with excellent situational awareness to pull it off, especially on a public road (read - Autobahn). Small mental and/or physical mistakes can lead to disastrous results extremely quickly.

I'm VERY familiar with the Autobahn.

"Controlled environment" is the issue.

Increasing speed increases risk, even if someone is driving the only vehicle on the road.

Have you ever been above even 150 in any automobile? Things can get pretty hairy very quickly, with or without other cars on the road. 195-200? Yes, i think that poses a significant increase in risk.

I do many track days every year. I go well over 150MPH dozens of times anually. Most often utilizing the full NASCAR circiut or IMSA layout at Pocono Raceway and the back straight at Watkins Glen. I have done a couple of close course speed events like Sun Valley as well. A properly prepared 996TT is quite stable at high speed.

Increased speed in a controlled enviroment unto itself does not increase risk.
