advice on coil overs
I am looking to lower my 996 TT slightly
I was thinking of doing springs but the suspension has close to 80k miles on it, so I figured I would be wasting my time.
I use the care for sprite driving on the street mostly and up in the mountains so I want to keep the ride comfortable( I had some ohlins Street/track coil overs on a mini Cooper and it was very harsh on the street) my wife hated riding in the mini cooper for that reason alone!
I want something that feels as good if not better on the street but can still do some time attack racing and autocross events .I dont really was tot be consulate adjusting it (I dont mind adjusting the damping a bit but I dont wast to adjusting ride height and spring tension all the time.
any first hand advice would be much appreciated
I was looking at Ohlins (was hoping the 911 turbo model was better than what my mini had) KW, and bilsteen pss10.
any other ideas welcomed
thanks

Pss10 have progressive rates and are pretty comfortable. I had KW V1s on an old car and they seem to be the most compliant and comfortable that I’ve had. I’ll have a used set in the next month or two available.

I have decide to go with H&R springs and Bilstein B8 shocks based on cost and ride quality. If $ was not an issue i would go for the Ohlins R&T. From what i have read they will lower the car a little more than i would like. Some say 1" to 1.5" range. i am going to make some custom shims to go at the top, between the upper mount and the car body to adjust it. I am hoping to get about .75 drop in the front and maintain the specified rake from the GT2 specs. We shall see how it goes, probably do this between Christmas and New Years. If my friend still has his set of scales, i may try corner balancing also. I have a driveway with a slight dip that already scrapes if i am not careful with stock suspension. Hoping to maintain reasonable ride while gaining some high speed stability and a better look. Turn 1 at Laguna Seca kinda gives me a pucker when i was finally able to make it through without lifting on the stock 70K mi. suspension. Hoping for more planted car that still handles the long range commute with style and comfort.

This thread and the links within it contain a ton of information. Personally I think the Ohlin R&Ts are the way to go.

I went with KW V1 about 3 or more years ago mainly because I found a great buy on a second hand never installed set. I like the easily adjustable ride height and have gone from stock to nearly 2" lower. I'm just under 1.5" lower now and over the last couple of years. The ride is great, maybe a bit firmer than OE but still compliant, wife doesn't complain either. If I was racing and was the tinkerer that I used to be maybe I'd go for adjustable dampening with the V4, but I'm happy as it is.

might be able to get away with H&R springs + Bilstein's...

I've never seen a Fortune setup, but based on the specs the FEALs don't look identical: they have 30-click adjustments (vs 24), use swift springs (vs hyper coil), and are an 8K/12K spring rate setup (vs 6K/12K).

Also thinking about a change either springs or c/o's (cab w/ 13k miles). After having car 1 yr, and saying car will remain stock, am slipping into the abyss (Cobb/Kline/997 shifter). Just looking to lower everything 1" and maybe a bit firmer ride, not tracking. Seems like there are mixed reviews on c/o's in the low 2k price range. Prefer to keep setup simple, not change controls arms etc. Haven't found the right one yet, maybe just go with springs and be done.

I have KW v3 sitting on my shelf as I have been quite happy with the cheap d2 racing coils. For the cheaper sets, these actually come with pillow ball upper mounts, adjustable plates. They have been very reliable, trouble, noise free for around 2 years now.

I've seen some listings for D2's and see alot of BC Racing c/o's listed for about $1250. But few reviews on them, will probably go with the springs this winter. Car to go into hibernation for the winter, this w/e.

Don't be fooled by the BC Racing listings as they DO NOT come with top mounts and you'll need to reuse your own or most likely purchase new since they are usually shot. The d2 comes with everything.
