Turbo question from a non turbo 996 owner
A friend of mine just bought an 03 turbo with x50 and was nice enough to let me take it for a spin. Wow, it was the most impressive car I have ever driven. I was particularly impressed with how tight the shifter was compared to my 00 996 C2. After going back to my car I feel compelled to do something to improve the shifting. Can any of you turbo guys recommend what changes I could do to make my C2 shift more like a turbo?
My second question deals with the seats in the turbo. My friends car has manual seats with only the back movement powered. Would it be possible to just buy a set of 8-way or 12-way electric seats and put them in? Is the wiring there?
Thanks for your help!

I'm sure that the Numeric is a fantastic shifter but $575?? Not that I wouldn't get it - a great shifter can change the way a car feels - but has anybody here made the switch and feel that it was totally worth it?

Other improvements can be had by making sure the motor and transmission mounts are not sloppy, Cup cables and linkage are the $hit.

You'll get a lot of opinions on this. I personally feel the Numeric is rather mediocre but it does have a vocal fan club. Numerous documented bearing and shaft failures over the years and no available centering tool to properly set it up. A friend has it on his car and it's very notchy. He's not too thrilled. I would install the OEM 997.2GT3RS shifter. Stock cables are fine but you can pair it with OEM Cup cables for extra precision with the tradeoff being a bit of noise. Many choices out there, if in doubt, try before you buy..

To truly improve "feel", though, I think you have to look to the GT3 piece or the Function-First solution that replace the plastic bits with metal. Or start messing with cables.

I put the stock 997 shifter in my old 99 c4 and it was fantastic. My current 02tt already has it but it has a little play developing. I am going to "upgrade" it similar to the function first kit. There is a how to on here somewhere that uses the bearing cups from one of the cheap eBay ssk kits and some shim washers. Looked like it did a good job for about $75.

I run 997.2 GT3 shifter with cup cables in my car- it's brilliant.
I installed a numeric in a friend's 997.1TT. It is better than stock but seemed kinda flimsy to me, even though it was made of all metal. I imagine it adds some rattles/vibrations due to its construction, but I didn't drive it to compare. He likes it a lot though, so as long as he enjoys it... it serve it purpose at approx 2x the price of the OEM 997.2 piece.
