Almost traded in my 996TT for a 991TTS
...but just couldn't let her go. So instead I'm going to add a loaded up Macan Turbo and still have money left over.
For over a year I've been longing for a 991TTS as I thought it was the perfect all around car. Then I thought about daily driving a $200K car and the cheapskate in me realized that I would never drive one to the grocery store. That and it actually made me sad when they took my 996TT to the shop and evaluated its trade-in value.
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys came close or actually did trade your car in and regret it.

I think you will enjoy the Macan - I have had a Macan turbo since march of 2015 still like driving the 996TT better.
The option that I wish I had on the Macan are the sports exhaust, Burmeister sound system and Porsche Torque Vectoring.

I did a 200 mile round trip deep into Wine Country today (Healdsburg) in my Turbo and it's a very, easy to drive car, yet it's still a driver's car that requires one to drive it.
The frunk also holds 2 cases of wine, so that's a plus.

In hk, the more you paid the more you lost
the price of 996tt cab in 2004 (hk$2m) could buy a over 700 sq ft flat with 3 rooms. Now the flat worth more than hk$9m but the tt cab is just something over hk$0.3m
what a pricey move to buy a new porsche!

Exactly why I never buy new Porsches.

Well the fact that we're on a Porsche forum indicates that we don't always make the "sensible" financial choices. I just try to make the choices that my parents shake their head at less frivolous. The dealer ofrered me more for my 999TT than I paid a couple of years ago - I'll bet the sensible guy who chose a brand new Honda Accord then can't say that.
However, he can fit his wife and and 4 year-old son in his car quite comfortably and I cannot. My "brilliant" solution was to replace mine with a larger 991. But the loss of my car plus a nice house in many parts of the country seemed like a bad choice. Enter the used, loaded but low mile, Macan Turbo. It's still under warranty, $45K cheaper than its $105K MSRP, will fit my family very comfortably, and, best part, I'll still be driving a very fast Porsche even when my 996TT is in the garage. My parents are probably still shaking their head though.

I'd say you made the right choice for several reasons. Going from a 996 to a 991 for more room will only yield marginal results for an exponential cost (of a depreciating asset no less). While the 991 Turbo is a faster and much QUICKER car than our 996, is it 2 or 3 times MORE rewarding to drive? I guess that depends, but for many of us, the answer would be a resounding no.
I don't know of any cars that are good at everything. That's why so many of us have the Turbo as a second or third car. I don't daily drive my Turbo, I have a big comfy Lexus LS 460 for every day. I would however like to replace the wife's RX 350 kid hauler with a nice used Cayenne eventually, the RX isn't much fun to drive.
So in summary, I think you made a great decision, keeping the 996 and getting a more functional Macan for family hauling. Best of both worlds really.
Congrats.

My kids are 9 and 11 so out of any kids seats and fit fine(for now). I forget the age when they got out of them but yours should be in a booster at least soon which I image will fit.
Macan turbo will fit them better though

Does the 991 have that much more room in the back? I have a full size child seat in the pass. back of my 996, and it requires the seat to be moved up quite a bit to make room for my 4yr. old. It's there only for the occasional fun weekend ride, but it's no coming out any time soon, not with a 4yr old and a 2yr old in the house.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to hear. I was on a quest for a year with this plan and then right there at fruition I suddenly thought it was a bad idea. And no, a 991 isn't that much bigger but it does allow my 5' 8" wife enough room to be comfortable. If family circumstances mean that I have to drive a Macan Turbo once in a while, so be it. The funny thing is that my wife thinks that the Macan is more of a chick car. I'm hoping the metallic black paint and 400HP gives it some sort of man-cred.

A stock 991 with more comforts and technology would be the perfect daily imo.
Plus it gets better gas mileage than my M5 and the break-even using that justification would only take 73 years @~10k miles a year!

My friend has a 991 Turbo S and loves it. It's really fast and incredibly comfortable. The only thing he misses with it is a manual transmission option. I have to agree. I love my 6MT!
