Porsche Short Shifter Question
Hi All,
My car has the dealer installed short shifter. Do those of you who have this kit like it? I find, especially when it's cold, that sometimes when I shift, I don't always get all the way into the gear. Each shift sort of feels 2 staged. Does that make sense to anyone else?
Maybe I'm just being a baby as the last car I owned with a short shift kit was my Scirocco 16v back in high school, ha.
Thanks,

when it's cold, you should be shifting much slower....the fluid needs to warm up and you don't want to wear on the synchros. I think one of the reasons the factory shifter had such a long throw was to allow time for the synchros.
My car was all stock when I bought it in 2014, but I added a 997 SSK shortly after and love the feel, it's much shorter and more precise. I do however take my time, especially on the 1-2 shift when the car is cold.

Thanks for that info.
I definitely don't shift quickly. Being an Alfa owner as well, I'm used to being careful. Classic Alfas are known for blowing the 2nd gear synchro.
I'm not grinding gears when I shift, it just doesn't seem to securely go into gear. Does that make sense? Like I said previously, it's almost like it takes 2 clicks to get into gear. It will FEEL like it's in gear but isn't.
I have an '03 for the record and I don't think this is the gear pop problem.

Mine started having an increasingly harder time getting into gear too. Now a couple seasons after a refresh it is still smooth as butter and can be shifted fast without delay into any gear.
How many miles are on the car?

Maybe go to the 997 shift cosole assembly. Everyone seems to like it. Not as radical as the short shift kit!

I've tried the 997SSK, stock 997, and stock 996, and IMHO, the stock 997 is the perfect length. 997SSK is a little too short where the effort is high, and feedback isn't as good. Stock 996 is a bit too bus-like (though it goes with the stock steering wheel ;P).
997.2 GT3 shifter unit or Function-First 997 unit are the way to go, IME.
P.S. If anyone wants to buy my 997SSK w/ Function-First SRS installed, PM me.
