Default Racing modified Viper.

I currently have a 2001 996TT with the Evo Stage 4GT and 4GRT programming. Evo claims 750hp and 706 torque with the 4GTR programming. I'm happy with the power but i don't believe i have enough for a shootout with a viper in february in las vegas. this event will be video taped and probably plastered all over the internet. thus, i can't lose. the race will consist of highway pull from a 60mph roll. we will go from 60 to 160. this viper only makes 630 lb.ft. of torque (to the rear wheels) but makes it at 2800 rpms and hold it all the way to 5500 rpm. need advice on what i can do to tweak any additional power besides NOS. i think all i need is an additional 50 - 60 hp and torque and i can take him (although it won't be by much, maybe half a car). but that's all i need to do.

Re-gear the trans. The street gears are way to short in 1st and 2nd, and way too long the rest of the way. If the speed range is fixed, you need shorter gears 3-6. AS

i agree that re-gearing the trans is definitely a good solution. like you said, 3-6 are too long and 1-2 are too short. however, i think that if i could somehow squeeze another 50 - 60 hp, i can take this viper with the stock gears in the trans. just wanted to know if any tuners out there have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Maybe a cryogenic spray for your intercoolers, i've read that they give an extra 50- 70 hp on some 996 tt's! I will try and find the link!

Before the race, keep bags of ice on the intercoolers. It really does help.

How do you know the Viper guy isn't tweaking his car right now like you're trying to do?

750 hp? You sure that is right? Stage 4gt is around 640 , I doubt a different program gives you 110 more hp.

Ever tried sticking bags of ice where the ICs actually are? Kinda hard to do..

You could always try what Cobra06 and I have done, which is this:

Get some spray bars and hook C02 or NOS up to the ICs.

Evo claims 750hp and 706 torque. It certainly feels much stronger than the Stage 4GT programming which is around 640hp/670 lb.ft. Especially in 3rd through 6th gears. Please try get me the link or phone number of the place that sells the best spray bars for 996tt applications.
I assume that before the race, you're supposed to spray the crap out of the ICs and make them ice cold. Or do you spray the ICs while you're actually racing? Or both?

How much use (spray time) can get with a 5 lb tank? I understand DEI has a intake cooler and fuel bar cooler as well. Are you using these components as well? How much power gain do you see?

Dk I am not currently running this or a similar system. I have heard good things about similar systems, as far as bang for your buck, this really is a very good value. In a car like yours, i would bet you could probably gain 50 - 80 whp!! The intercoolers on your 996 aren't very efficient. Actually Gemballa and some other tuners add a extra intercooler to help out the two smaller ones! With this system your basically freezing the intercooler to lower the intake temperature! Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm sure you can add a larger tank if thats what you wanted to do! But a 5lb tank would surely be enough for a couple of quick races! I think since your racing in Nevada this mod would greatly benefit your turbo-charged car since its pretty hot there!
