Default Owners Manual Reprints??

So for some unknown reason, my new-to-me 2004 Turbo Cab came with a 2002 owners manual, meaning there is no convertible top info. For the life of me, I can not imagine why a 2002 manual was substituted by a PO. Anyway, has anyone ever purchased the manuals from Porsche? They are only about $25, just wondering exactly what you get for that small amount. On eBay, used 2004 Turbo manuals go for around $100 so I am assuming there is a huge quality difference. Any info appreciated.....

Thanks

Shoot me a PM if you might want to get rid of the 2002 manual, and yes I agree they're crazy priced. I think the price is based off most owners wanting original purchase equipment and for you the fact that you have a late example might drive up the price a little more.

I have two versions of the Owner's Manual for my '04 X50. The one that came with the car was printed 5/03 and is part number WKD99622104. I later ordered the version printed in 6/04 and it is part number WKD99622105. I decided the last two digits of the part number represent the model year, so my car came with the correct manual and then for good measure, I now also ended up with a brand-new-in-factory-packaging manual for the '05 model.

The good news is that both are still appear as available to be ordered through your favorite Porsche dealer. The one I use shows the same price of $20.43 for each manual. And FWIW, the better news is that both of the versions mentioned above contain over 15 pages on the convertible top, the related windscreen, and the removeable hardtop.

Suncoast has 'em... $30. Though they do hit you for an extra $13 shipping which is a bit of a rip off.

Still, i have no idea why folks spend $100 on ebay when they can buy it from Porsche for less than half that.

Sunset has them at $23 + $8 shipping... Just ordered one as my manual is a bit damaged. I'll let you know how it compares to the original when it arrives.

Is the one from Suncoast an original or reprint?

Seems pretty legitimate then... I suppose if someone was trying to be a real collector about it these are probably a different print run but I'm sure that doesn't make a huge difference.

That is what I am trying to find out........how the "new" one from Porsche compares to an original. The price diff suggests the new versions may not be the same quality - for me I am not worried about the print date, etc., I just would like one as good as the original. Lets see if someone will provide pics & review of a new version.

For those collectors, I have a virgin, Porsche original and unused factory tire change 'accessory set' including the tire storage bag, disposable glove set, and disposable hand towel I'll sell for $200..

Seriously... This isn't a multi-million dollar Ferrari were the tool set alone is worth more than a nice 996TT.

The price diff suggests the new versions may not be the same quality
To me, the ebay vs. dealer price difference is indicative of only one thing, uninformed buyers and eBay sellers more than happy to capitalize on it.

Sunset let me know they will be shipping my ordered manual in a few days. When it arrives, I'll give you the exact details since I still have the original manual, but I can't imagine they will be relevantly different!

Plan to order the manual. Any idea where to find the manual for the PCM 2.0 for an 04 Turbo? I am tired of trying to devine the functions of the PCM.

Holy crap the PCM manual for my 2008 Cayman S was the size of a small phone book and was page after page after page of completely useless info.... Utterly obsolete, and the 2004 system is even a generation older! Most of the functions are so obsolete you will never use them. Really no hidden gems in the system.

Porsche does SO many things right, but entertainment/communication systems really isn't one of them, at least not until the new Carplay integrated units.

So it took a while, but Sunset Porsche just received and shipped out to me the replacement owners manual I ordered a while back...
WKD-996-221-01, Owner Man 2001 911 Turbo. $32 shipped.

It should arrive in a day or two, I'll post up info once it does. I still have the original manual that came with the car (it got a bit damaged) so I can compare the original to the reprint.

My guess is that it is identical in quality and nearly identical in content to the original, just a different 'version number' on the back and any revisions specs made since the original incorporated. We shall see! USPS tracking says it will be here Saturday.
