definitely excited to see the GT2 smash the record, hell of a car. and to echo the sentiment of others above, heck of a driver too! who else watched the video in its entirety when they logged into rennlist this morning... :roflmao:

People buy them, get scared or tired of it and realize they will not outpace traditional investment tools and sell to owner #2 or 3 for less than they paid. With 5x as many on the road, kids today would be able to see one somewhere outside of a car show and may become a future porsche buyer??

Even if they would build a 1000 units a year for 2 or 3 years. I think that 300k is a great price and at that I would buy it and actually drive it. Porsche should really just charge the extra 200k and put the $200,000,000 in their own pocket :)

700 hp (along with some other things) beats the hybrid.

Plus its 450 lbs lighter, yet the GT2 has 187 less total hp.

That's part of "some other things".

Like the article said, the 918 can't use all of its power all of the time, while the GT2 RS can. This IMO indicates that the "all gas" engine is the superior design.

BTW, if I were in the market for another sports car, I would without question want the new GT2 over a 918.

The only 991 I like/want....I expected it to take the record and wasn't disappointed :)
Look at the chassis tuning/composure..

I agree, what would you pay for one that you would actually want to drive?

Does anyone have an informed view on what would be the lap time for a stock manual 996tt with X50 with the same rubber as the GT2RS and DOT4 fluid? Probably high 7s?

No idea what it would do there with what are essentially DOT track tires, and I don't recall if it was X50 or not, but Sport Auto ran the 996TT around the ring many many years ago and was around 7:56.

997TT by the same driver was 7:54, and the 6GT3 was also 7:54. 996GT2 was 7:46. All tests by Sport Auto with same driver, but different dates/conditions obviously.

It was not an X50.

I think $240k or so.

I'd guess 7:30.

I'd guess it'd be much higher than that.

Walter Rohrl in a 997 GT2 on R-compound tires was a few seconds above 7:30 IIRC.

991 TT-S on R-compound tires is slightly behind the 997 GT2.

Carrera GT isn't even at 7:30.

Gonna take a lot more than tires and brake fluid to get a 996TT in the same air as those cars.

A different track in some ways, and different tires than what the GT2RS used.

And based on the video, that GT2RS driver appears to be a bit better than Walter.

I'll stick with 7:30...

And as usual you would be wrong, very wrong.
