2001 tt shift problems
I just bought a 01 tt with 53k on it. Ive noticed that the shift from first to second is allowing the car to rev and then drop into second maybe a second later. Its the only gear that does this and it doesn't seem to be slipping at all. It does it in manual mode as well. any ideas? also i had the transmission fluid changed with the appropriate fluids in the appropriate way to make sure it was full.
thanks!!

Interesting. I'm guessing it's Tiptronic by your description. My stick shift only has trouble with the 1-2 shift, and I worry it might be a tired synchro. The only way to avoid having it "grind" after a full-throttle run up in first gear is to let off the throttle and "granny shift" 1-2. If using less than WOT on first gear run-up, 1-2 shift is smoother. I didn't think this would exist in the Tip cars.

Yes, tiptronic. Unfortunately it must happen in these as well, or at least mine. Hoping someone will say its something that can be tuned. And I let off after a full throttle take off in first before it can power slam into second gear. I figure it will be an epic launch or more likely the car breaks in half

Was it doing this before you had the fluid changed? Did they change the ATF filter too?

Okay, I hate to say this but it sounds like you need a full or partial rebuild. You might get lucky and just need some valve body work.
Where are you located? I know of two well respected shops that specialize in these transmissions. One is in Florida, the other in New Jersey.
If you are no where near either of those two places you want to find a shop that is good with these units. They are a bit different than traditional auto gearboxes. They are build by Mercedes and known by a few different names. 5G-Tronic or 722.6 or NAG1. Because this unit is used in many cars it might cheaper to swap yours out for a rebuilt one.

Well on the bright side the car normally starts off in second gear once it's warmed up so the shift from 1st to 2nd is not used often.
