Valentine 1 Radar Detecor in Rearview Mirrow?
So, I met up with pfbz earlier today to talk Porsches. I showed him my rearview mirror which includes a Valentine 1 radar detector - or so I thought. There's also an on off switch between the controls for the heated seats. It's all very clean.
But pfbz brought up a good point... Where is the actual unit? The thing turns on and makes all the normal beeping noises. However, I've never actually heard it go off around town. So, do I just have the mount now and the actual radar detector is supposed to be plugged in somewhere?
Anyone have one of these in their car? It's such a nice clean solution. I have an extra V1 I could plug in, just have no idea where it would actually plug in!
Thanks,

If you only had the mount, how would it be making the beeps?

32krazy found what I think is the right brand. I'll take pictures later today.
There are no sensors in either bumper - at least none that are visible. I'll have to do some more investigation for a loose wire or the unit itself.

I remember seeing a sensor in the front bumper. I think it was near the license plate.

Check this out. It lists all of the parts needed to mirror mount. Take a pic and send it to them maybe it is one of theirs?

Oops same as 32krazy.

On my integrated K40 system installed by a previous owner, the weatherproof heads are mounted on the aluminum bumpers hidden underneath the plastic skins. Would be very difficult or impossible to see without removing the rear bumper. No holes in the bumper cover itself, just shoots through the plastic...

I didn't have a chance to take a picture before dropping the car off to solve my check engine light this morning.
I did have the mirror V1 register something for a second, so the actual radar detector is definitely SOMEWHERE in the car.
I did find a cut wire in the front bumper just laying there - must have been for a jammer at some other point in time.

I actually love this setup - super super clean, but I'm just befuddled as to where the actual unit is and if it's in a good angle.
I did read that if the V1 can't see forward and backward, the laser function doesn't work. So you have to have a separate laser addition - which could be what the cut wire is for in my bumper area?

Laser detection requires line-of-sight, no obstructions... But that said, front laser detection is mostly useless (no advance notice, more of a 'you just got nabbed' detector), and I would think rear laser detection is completely useless!
Radar detection can pass through non-metal without difficultly... plastic bumpers, glass, cloth seats, etc.
Does the startup tone on the mirror sound like the standard V1 startup? And does the mirror display show the display startup sequence, and then show a P or L?
Like this shown below? If not, I wonder if the mirror device itself has a startup tone and the V1 was clipped out of the system... If your hearing those startup tones and the proper display, the V1 has to be somewhere!
