Yokohama A052 - Any Feedback?
 

Been searching the forums for some review on Yokohama's new UHP tire. But am only coming up with the Cup 2s, PS2s, Falkens, and even the BF Goodrich Rival S.

Has anyone got experience with these new tires? Price seems fair, and thread looks promising. They come with the perfect sizes.

I had these on my 993. Terrible tires. I would recommend the PS2 or the new PS3.

Thanks for sharing! I have put off getting new tires, because i read that the PS2 N Spec now has diff compound rubber, whilst the front BMW Spec PS2s are still the traditional old tech, so was really hoping for a perfect match.

Yoko had a similar design Advan before...were they those or the brand new A052(just released)?

So you took these off after about 2 months of them being on the market lol? These are not the old AD048 tires you are probably talking about, these are a replacement for the AD08 R. I currently have the AD08 R on my car and they are better than the PS2 in every way other than possibly wear.

To the OP, I would give these a try. They will most likely be on my car next year.

Hopefully @myrboatvr6 could shed more details soon! Haven't been able to find any reviews at all apart from the one on tire rack. They really do look promising.

I was told by tirerack that these were better in every measure other than the wet than the AD08 R, which are awesome on my car. If anyone wants some half used AD08R'S I would be happy to test these out for everyone LOL! Yoko has been making some good stuff. This is coming for a staunch Michelin convert.

I'm tempted to try... but only getting a couple months a set currently and at 6/32" casting.... :(

I'm very happy with my AD08Rs...they work great for my dry canyon carving. I've got 1500+ miles on them, well over half a year and they work great. If I get 8000 miles I'll be thrilled, that's 2-3 years.

How were the AD08Rs in the wet? I don't ever take the 911 out when rains/or is in the forecast, but it's good to know that they can manage the "accidental" rain fall.

The thread on these A052s look alot like the Pilot Sport Cups, but with less water channeling IMO.

I live in N. California, so not a ton of rain here, although last winter we had torrential downpours. I've never driven on the AD08Rs in a downpour, so I can't attest to how they handle standing water.

That being said, the canyons I drive in are frequently wet from fog/mist. The AD08Rs do fine, but I have to be a little careful coming out of tight wet corners in 2nd gear (car WILL break tires loose at WOT) but the overall grip is excellent. In similar dry corners, I can exit nearly at WOT and the car hooks up. This is with an exhaust and 100 octane tune, so car is quite torquey down low. Stock would not have any traction issues.

I'm no expert, but based on the tread design, the A052s do not appear to be a replacement for the AD08Rs, I think they have somewhat different use cases. My AD08Rs are a sticky street tire that can be driven to the autocross or track, and the tread pattern is deep for water channeling. The A052s have very little tread depth and look to be track tires that can be driven to the track, but I wouldn't run them for my use case (3rd car, 2000-3000 miles per year, canyons/backroads).

As a side note, the Yok AD08R 225/40/18 and 295/30/18 have the exact same diameter and revs per mile @ 831. In order to preserve the front to rear height ratios, I went with 235/40s up front, which yield 820 revs per mile. There appears to be no downside and as a bonus the 235/40s are 9.1" wide compared to the 225s @ 8.7" and the 235s fit much better on my 8.5" Forgestars.

They will be my next tires.

after several successful sets of Yoko AD08 R's, which are absolutely amazing, I'd certainly be willing to try these, which are rated better.

these ARE the follow on tire to the AD08R, which has been confirmed by multiple sources. (search it)

Yes, the 08R appears to have deeper siping for wet, but keep in mind the new design of the 052 looks much like a Rally tire, with motorsport tech inspired sipes.

Yep, I was told that they were the replacement on the phone with a person from tirerack. I do agree they dont look it, especially for the wet, but he did say that the treadwear will be bwtter as well. Im also assuming "200" treadwear is to help it compete in SCCA events and the like for AutoX competition with the likes of the Bridgestone RE71R, which is my favorite tire of all time (damn you Bridgestone for not making that tire in our size). I run those on my GTI VR6 and they transformed the car.

Thanks for the clarification...interestingly enough, Tire Rack doesn't show the new A052 in 295/30/18, but the Yokohama site does, which is good news for those of us who run 295s out back. The A052 in 295/30/18 shows 828 revs per mile, with the 225/40 coming in at 827 and the 235/40 at 816.
