Why stick with NT01 for track? Speed, wear, feel?

NT01 is supposed to keep its grip longer than an A052. Its not that it is necessarily faster. When pushed hard on a 25 min track session you can start to feel the A052 give up some. However this means that it also heats up faster for AutoX, which as a multi purpose AutoX/street tire would beat the NT01 hands down. The best part is I get the benefit of the A052 on the street and AutoX on my street wheels and NT01 heat tolerance on track for my track wheels. That is the theory at least. Haven't driven the NT01 yet. I will post back here once I get some data!

I used to run NT01s and have run over 25 sets in the past, sizes 245/40/18, 275/35/18, 305/35/18, 315/30/18, and 335/30/18. They are very good track day tires if you are not chasing the last couple of seconds and wear very well. I would normally get 12 sessions before the tires were toast, so 2-3 track days. They were optimal on heat cycle 3-6 with an even reduction of performance though heat cycle 12. After 15 heat cycles the grip of the tires would fall off the cliff. They were a great bang for the buck and a very forgiving tire with a nice progressive breakaway at the limit which makes it a great learning tire. With that said, the 315/30/18 was rather mediocre in my opinion due to it's short sidewall and rather low load rating which would cause the tire to overheat quickly if driven with some aggression. I actually hated that tire. The 245/40 and 305/35 was excellent and the 275/35 and 335/30 for superior to the others. You will want a 9" wheel for the 245 and 12" for the 305. The 275 will require a 9.5-10" wheel and the 335 which runs very wide performs optimally on a 12.5 or 13. Neither of these combos are AWD compatible however. 24F/25R psi are good starting pressures with target 32/33 hot pressures. The 315 required more pressure due to it's lack of sidewall and load rating which made it feel greasy in short order. On a typical 2 min lap, the NT01 will be about 2 seconds slower than a Hoosier R7 and about 5 seconds slower than a slick. Hope this helps..

I agree, my results were similar. I'm currently using the Hoosier R7s in 245/40-18 and 315/30-18 with my hot pressures at 33psi front and rear. They seem to be the tire of choice among the group I run with although a few people use the Pirelli slicks as well.

Picked up a set of A052 in 18" 245/315. They look huge compared to my 245/315 NT01's. A friend of mine has 235/315 on his TT and had to roll the rear fenders and make other adjustments to make them fit without rubbing. Has anyone here with 245/315 A052's had a similar experience?

Strange. I ran a set of 245/315 A052s on 9"/12" wheels respectively. Minor fender liner rubbing, nothing on the metal parts. I didn't adjust anything and just let 'em self-clearance. No problems.

Same here but my car is also lowered to GT2 height with GT2 spec wheel size and spacing. Only minor rubbing on the inner plastic liner (rears only), totally livable. My tech has since installed the GT2 type brackets to further mitigate the issue.

These tires are robust! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d96af4b1b0.jpg

Just ordered up some Falkens from tire rack as the Bridgestones are no longer available

I have had two sets of A052s as tires for track use in GT2 sizes, and they are really nice. I would keep using them but they seem to be out of stock. So I have Nankang CR-1 tires now in the same size. The guys I know at HPDEs really like them, so I'm giving them a try.

Just ordered another set from tire rack yesterday. 245's up front and 315 in the back.

Good tire, wears well and great at the mix of road/track driving that I do. Maybe once I get a spare set of wheels I'll look into a more aggressive track dedicated tire and something cheaper like the general's for street driving.

Really Really wish Michelin would make our size in the P4S for the rear.

+1

I really like the PS4 on the 991, a very good all around tyre.

I just noticed that A052 comes in a 255/35-18 size. I'll order a set with that size in the front if I don't like the CR-1s

Curious if any 986 Boxster owners running these for daily street driving and occasional HPDE? Looking to get a set of dedicated tires for 2022 PCA HPDE.

I have a set of daily driver Federals which have done well for HPDE but are on its last legs. I also have a spare set of 17" factory staggered wheels for my Boxster so I'm thinking of putting them to use with some new tires. Thanks in advance!

Edit: @993GT How much mileage do you have on your AD052? I noticed in another thread you have them on your car for fulltime daily and track usage. Are you running these at CTMP?
