Default New Member: 996 GT3 timing/knock issues

Hey fellas, long time lurker. I am new to this forum.

2005 996 GT3 Stock car.
Runs well. 70k miles
She has recently been quite overhauled
Motor out service
New MAF/02
Injectors serviced
Lets consider this car heavily maintained, whatever she needs she has gotten

Decided to tune her. Before I was told I should pull all the parameters on my Dura and make sure its a healthy enough for sexual activity. I mean a performance tune.

Ended up noticing that at certain spots in my rev range car is pulling timing back. I thought it was bad gas. Went out and found some 93 from Shell and pulled it again, seems to be in the same shape.

Ideas, thoughts, concerns. I am an amateur so please humble and school me on what you guys see.

Do you know what tune the DME has on it? The log is showing it Reving past 8200 where the stock rev limiter is set. How is the airbox and sealing surface to the deck lid for cool air? These cars are very picky with wanting cold air. I would log and check the IATs as well. Also check the exhaust for cat issues or exhaust leaks. Looks like you could have one bank running lean and one running rich.

What is the exact test setup?

When you say 'nope' do you mean that you checked all of the things I mentioned and they are fine?

No codes.

Plugs are less than 500 miles old. They are stock fr6ldc plugs. coils have been switched out with no difference so I switched them back and got to return the old ones to WP.

it is a stock original fuel map. I have a slight higher octane mixture in it now and went out and logged it. It seemed to have improved a little but. Only 4-5 dips in timing instead of 15. All above 6k rpms.

The decklid to airbox area looks ok. No signs to make you think otherwise. The cats are fine. No codes. They have about 2k on them. Been removed and checked. Inlet and outlet temps are uniform. They are oem parts.

The car car just feels like it struggles over 100 mph

how does one check their fuel pump?!.

You either log the flow or pull it. How old is the fuel filter? Has the car sat for a while?

No car is driven pretty consistently.
I will check my records for last fuel filter replacement.
Logging has been done on a relatively flat highway. Florida is flat lol.

I did log rough running cylinders yesterday. I will plot that graph this afternoon and post it.

How does one log knock? Didn't think the dme 7.8 with the durametric did so?!

Just noticed my brothers (biological) username was still signed on, and I posted answers as him (Bisan) He is the one that told me to make a name and post my issue on here for help.

My apologizes if I confused anyone, so his responses were my response to your questions. The man needs to get his own laptop.

Does anyone know how to log knock?

Probably want to look at: this

knock will have a root cause - you mixture is leaning out or cylinder temps are getting to high or a bunch of other reasons... The 6GT3's have a known fuel pump problem, an internal hose tends to fail, which is why I was suggesting that as a possible cause...

Ray,

I've seen and have gone through those threads numerous times. I know most of the how tos on logging. The only info on knock logging for a car with boost I'd assume a 996TT Which doesn't use DME 7.8. So I figured you need different parameters for the gt3. And regardless it doesn't tell you how to diag the data it mentions. So if someone can post how to log and check knock for DME 7.8 I'd be greatly appreciated.

I didn't realize durametric doesnt display knock. I use my tuners proprietary logger which displays knock for each cylinder on a scale of 0 to -15 degrees of retard. My logs on my conservative race tune show mainly 0s with a few -1s and -2 and an occcasional -3.
