Default GT2 or GT3

It's been a while since this has been brought up, just wondering if any new comments or comparisons can be shared now that some have had more time in both cars?

both high value/price super cars. both absolute triumphs for Porsche.

GT2: ultimate power 911 -- exceptional driver needed to use all the potential, but even slow posers can go fast when they trust the incredible cornering capability. balanced, handles superbly, awesome stopping and power, a complete high power package, substantially more advanced than a TT. ultimate hillclimber and looks righteously cool.

GT3: same but NA and obviously less power, but offsetting that lighter, smaller, nimbler, more responsive, tossable, etc. a complete package of handling/braking/power that is unbeatable at the price point. corners/brakes as well as gt2 if not better due to less mass and more advanced suspension. better day to day as lighter feeling easier to drive around town and hits the ground much less often on my mountain bumps, garage ramps, etc. a true descendant of the 73 RS

oh,

in comparing value:

a new 04 GT3 at 5-10 under, say 90-100, is to me an equal value as a new 02 GT2 at 140-150, or 45-50 under.

if i had to chose between an 04 gt3 as above and an 04 GT2 at 15 under or 168-ish, i would chose the gt3 today, but in 3 months????????

jumpin' jack flash,

hey what did i say? i said 3 months. ne ragg me pas!!!

and i predict if this brutal Malibu winter continues, with rain every 2 weeks and Temperatures in the 70's, BBBBBrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I'll wash it in less than a month.

and yes, i was astounded to see rear speakers and the radio has different buttons from the GT2

pete,

same place i get GT2's! cash is king

what is ride quality? i guess you mean like comfort over the bumps???

my GT2 was set 2/1 F/R bars very soft, but had corsas. it was stiffer feeling than the stock Gt3 set up is with PS2's, but the tyres are part of it as corsas have a stiff sidewall. [bars have a secondary stiffening effect in the gt2 beyond roll reduction]

i can drive right thru in the gt3 areas where i had to slow down in the gt2. driving in Malibu w/ the gt2 is frequent ssshhhhhh, ssssssssshhhhhhh, ssssssssssshh sounds as you drag the front brake ducts on the ground, but no biggie. gt3 is to my unskilled senses "more compliant" as is.

set either into a corner they squat and go round totally stable and rock solid.

Perhaps what Twisted is gtting at, and what I am concerned about is wether or not the GT3 is a streetable car.

There have been some who have suggested it is impossible to drive on the street. Your experience seems to contradict those comments.

Guys,

Watt has some magic power. I paid list for my GT2 and same for my GT3. I agree with Watt's words on the two cars.

With respect to the ride, they feel the same to my ***. Note that the GT2 is about a half inch lower than the GT3 as they come from the factory. The GT3 clears obstacles better than the '2' due to the higher ride height and the fact that the spoiler lip is not cantelevered out so far. If this bothers you, both cars have adjustable ride height so you could set the '2' to ride half an inch higher if you want to.

In the bang for the buck department the GT3 is a better buy in my view comaring list to list. Where I live the GT3 cost 80K less than the GT2. That's a lot of money.

Bob,

I am not sure the GT3's ride height is 1/2" higher than the GT2's. According to the shop manuals, the factory says:

GT3 Front: 112 mm - 10 mm (112 mm to 102 mm)
GT3 Rear: 125 mm + 10 mm (125 mm to 135 mm)

GT2 Front: 118 mm - 10 mm (118 mm to 108 mm)
GT2 Rear: 133 mm + 10 mm (133 mm to 143 mm)

Viken, I was surprised to hear from other's that the GT2 was lower than the 3. I'm saying to myself, "how much lower can you go???" The brake cooling ducts are dangerously close to the ground, IMO....Looks like you have the compelling evidence, The GT3 is lower. Perhaps that measurement excludes the GT2's extended front spoiler lip....

These measurements have nothing to do with the body or bumpers. They are from a specific point of the chassis underneath to the ground.

Viken

The front spoiler is a lot lower on the GT2 than on the GT3. The GT2 is in the shop for retouching stone chips. When I can put them side by side I will measure from the fender lip. My GT3 does not scrape in places where the GT2 cannot even go!
