Interesting data point. Garage queen for 80k. Where does that put a solid driver with 30-50k miles? 70ish?

 

Really depends but I think this car makes sense if you are buying to DD this thing or use as an occasional weekend driver.

If you are planning to DE/track it, the car will need a lot of work/upgrades. I think well sorted DE cars can get this or more depending on miles.

Realistically, yes. I think a lot of people feel their cars are worth more though.

 

Most of the time, with most cars, lots of tasteful mods actually decrease the value. I don't think it's the same for 996 GT3's. I think a lot of folks are like me, and they're willing to pay more for a car that has desirable mods already installed, the pipes pinned/welded, etc. If you plan to do any track work at all, pinning the pipes alone can be a huge bill right out of the box if not
already done.

 

There was one in the Carolinas that had 100k miles that was for sale for a long time. I think it finally sold last year at 50k

 

I believe that is correct. That car also had prior accident history and paintwork too, if I'm not mistaken.

 

When I was selling my car, the people who would have paid top dollar really wanted a clean, low mile car. Lot's of people low balled me and only 2 or 3 were actually serious buyers. Granted my car was a/c delete, so that probably limited interest, but the 996 market just isn't that strong to outsiders. People focus on the design of it rather than the functionality.

At $80k, I would personally take a 10k mile, nicely setup 6gt3 over a 10k mile well spec'd gt4.

 

I have only seen 1 GT4 able to keep up with me, and that one was pretty heavily modified. He seemed like a good driver too. I decided I'd rather keep my 6GT3 than get a GT4. No nannies!

high miles, yes. but the car was use as a daily for many years. 100% stock, never tracked, never abused, never modified, 100% original paint.
car runs and drives great.
i think the price point reflects the miles although does not take away from the car. now i need to decide whether to keep it and drive it sparingly keeping the miles at bay or drive the snot out of it and see what happens with the value once it crosses 100k. i spoke to roger at orbit racing who knows the car and he said aside from replacing the spark plugs and flushing the brake fluid, i should have a good car for a long time

Congrats! Great car and great price. I second the suggestion to just drive it. Its not like someone who is interested at 85k-90k miles is going to all of a sudden say "no way" to one with over 100k. And, I wouldn't worry about reliability. These things are stout. Sold my 996tt (basically same mezger) with 120k miles and that thing was perfect and strong! Enjoy it (love the color, I think you did well!).
