Default R compound tires for GT2

In order to fully enjoy my GT2 at a track and not park it in corners because of the street tires (Hi RadicalRacer ) I'm thinking about upgrading the rubber to some R-Compound tires.

What are the available options? I had some great experience with Michelin Sport Cup but I doubt they are available in that size. Thanks for any info!

Pirelli P-Zero Corsa's are available in the 235/295 f/r sizes - its a really good tire and supposedly standard issue for the GT3RS. I understand from responses to another tread that I started on a similar topic that Michelin should have the Sport Cups out in the 235 front size by the end of the year.

There is going to be a new PZero Corsa Asimmetrico version designed for the rear while the conventional directional one still goes on the front. I believe that this is the combination used on the GT3-RS.

doug brown of michelin is trying to expedite 235 cups for us gt2 folks, they had a miscommunication which delayed it. tyre was finished and homolugated last june!!! he still has no date altho' he is pressing the french factory that produces them. i will let you know when he lets me know.

also for anyone waiting for ps2's in any size other than the gt3 size [which fits TT's i believe??? viken??? pls confirm], it's going to be a very, very, long wait. they are still waiting for porsche N spec.s to even design and build other sizes....

except for gt2 sizes!!!! the 04 gt2 is single source PS2, so we'll have that tyre available, but in tiny quantities initially as they plan tyre production to car production and gt2 04 production is what 20 cars?.

Arnuad,

Bob rouleau has been running cups on his gt2 using the 225 in front and sees no problem. he prefers the corsa as they have some capability in the rain while cups are quite limited in the rain. corsas are currently available in gt2 sizes. search his and other threads

That might be true. However, Michelin could easily produce more sizes without the N-spec. In the meantime, there are quite a few really good maximum performance street tires. Has anyone tried the Bridgestone S-02A? It is also being installed on the Turbo's and C4S' now.

As to the GT3 tire sizes, they are 235/40 (8.5") and 295/30 (11"). These tires will work on the Turbo but an 8.5" front wheel would be preferable.

"However, Michelin could easily produce more sizes without the N-spec."

Viken,
this may be the case, but Doug made it clear they won't!

Well, what sizes are we looking for? The ones already available and/or announced are:

225/40-18
235/40-18
295/30-18
315/30-18

The only P-car 18" size missing from the above is the 285/30-18 used on the Carrera models.

235/40-18 is the one we're waiting to hear from Doug on.

Well, except for the 315, Tire Rack says they are all in stock as of today.

Kind of funny actually -- If you want Cups for the GT2, then it's the 235 size that's not available. On the other hand, if you want the new PS2's for street use on the GT2, it's the 315 size that you can't get. It must be a GT2 conspiracy.

AW: Recently tried the Corsas on the GT2 and liked them. Had been using the Cups on the TT, so that was my preference; but the Corsas do the job. I think you'll be happy with them, at least until Cups are available in the correct sizes.

Thanks for all the answers. I have ordered a set of Pirelli P-Zero Corsa. The sales rep told me it was required to shave them if used on a dry track. I went ahead with his recommendation.
