Default Difficulty Starting After Fueling / P0446

Recently, I have had occasional difficulty starting the car when hot after refueling. It doesn't happen every time but when it does the car will crank at a normal speed but not catch for ~5-10 seconds. It seems to help to feather the gas. After getting it started the car runs normally. It also recently threw a P0446 check engine light. I don't have a Durametic so can't run a more detailed diagnostic. There are no issues filling the car with fuel.

Discussions over in the 996 section suggest these symptoms are often a sign that the EVAP system purge value aka "regeneration value" (http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...pg3.htm#item11) needs to be replaced.

Do people agree with this diagnosis? Does anyone know the part number for the culprit on the GT3? Is it easily accessible? I haven't been able to locate it in the parts catalog or service manual.

Thanks immensely for the help.

Default Part #

I think I found the part number - 996 110 129 90. I looks to be in the upper left corner of the engine bay, near the intake manifold. I'm not sure how accessible it is though. Not a lot of space to work up there. Anyone have any thoughts?

does it only happen after refueling? what about a hot start?

Thanks for posting that document. Yes, it has only happened after refueling, and not after every refueling. Haven't had any problems with hot starts.

check out the attachment i posted. the purge valve (regeneration valve, same thing) could be the problem. if you had a general hot start problem i was thinking that you are losing fuel pressure when you stop running.

if the purge valve is stuck open i would think that you would notice this in the fuel trim. a generic scanner would probably pick this up but it will not show you fuel trim for rkat (idle range), i think it will only show an overall trim value. durametric will show you the fuel trim for idle range (rkat) and upper ranges as well. a leaking purge valve would be most noticeable at idle.

An update in case anyone runs into a similar problem - I fixed the problem by replaced the regeneration valve (996 110 129 90). It's an easy DIY.
