Default Near miss while being chased at the track!

Footage is a bit grainy but it was taken from the front splitter of a modified Fiat X19 chasing me down last weekend. Hoosiers, 1750 lbs and 370 rwhp with a sequential gearbox. His brakes failed at the end, i thought he got close but didn't realize just how close! (See at the end)

Really struggled to get my car stopped, particularly in the rear but already onto that.

Damn that happened fast! Did you see him coming?

Two other observations:
1. I'm surprised the Fiat isn't pulling harder out of corners (given power/weight + hoosiers) and braking deeper (rookie driver?)
2. Your car sounds amazing. Soooo good.

He went off into the kitty litter in the same spot in the previous session so I was a little wary when I saw him come up in the rear view mirror. Then suddenly he was gone! I'm not sure of his experience level but he seemed to be over-driving the car a bit. That being said, when I went up afterwards to ask him "wtf?" he said he was using front calipers that had been sitting on the car out in his yard, exposed to the elements for 8 years, and he didnt bleed or flush the fluid either. When he told me his day was done I politely shook his hand and walked off!

I did a 1:16.5 to his 16.9 in that session, I think his car should be down in the 1:13s given his spec sheet. Oddly enough I think it was an ex US car as it had California plates, a big Tire Rack sponsor logo and was LHD.

Seems ludicrous to me given how much $$ I'm sure has been spent on Hoosiers and horsepower. I'm sure you'll always point that car by now

He told me 370 hp. Could have been at the crank? Mine has 365 rwhp and a fair bit of a diet - I got stuck behind him in the first session of the day and couldn't pass him as he pulled away on the straights.

Makes you wonder doesn't it. I don't usually track with this group so hopefully I don't have to encounter that again!

So, no Tech Inspection there?

Good reminder that there are a lot of non-smart people out there on the track

Glad he didn't total your car...

Thanks Mike. Black looks good at least while you drive it out of your garage. It's all down hill after the first bug splat

They do what we call in Aus "scrutineering" but they mainly check safety items like harness, helmet, fire extinguisher etc. No detailed tech inspection to check brake rotors or pads unless something is bleedingly obvious. Usually these events are supposed to be run with over a 10 sec gap between the cars with no overtaking so that if something like that happens it's not an issue with cars hitting each other. This event was a once off. To be honest I didn't know what to expect going in.

Lax: Very true
