Default 996RS clubsport/lightweight

Is there such an RS, or were they all sold as-is, then modified?

I'm primarily concerned with UK market cars.

Thanks.

As already mentioned, only RS, already the lightweight option. I only know of 1 air con delete car in the UK.

Your UK cars are a rare breed within the rare. About 120 RHD cars all in, mostly in red (2/3rds the best guess). Like HiWind said, one could spec the cage and trim in optional white and delete the lower center console back then. But everyone gets the cage and Recaro nomex seats.

I can't quite fathom anyone converting a 6RS to comfort spec... that'll be one particularly obtuse individual...

I've seen one being driven by a workshop in the Dandenong area of Melbourne. White with red wheels and decals. Can't say I like the way they look, and honestly you take a CS and throw in a light flywheel, low diff and 'race' exhaust you'd never know the difference IMHO.

Yep a lot of our cars are already far over and above what an RS can give you, I still think a blue/white RS is a pretty car though.

I disagree, right out the box the 996RS out performs a modded 996.2GT3.

There was a rolling road event in the uk over the weekend with all GT3s from 996.1 upto 4.0

My modded and mapped 996.2 was 400bhp, stock 996RS ran 408bhp, modded (exhaust) 996RS was 418. This is not about the size of numbers, it's the delta between models which is interesting. You'd have to pretty much strip a 996.2 and spend a fair bit of money to get the raw-ness of an RS. The engine internals and suspension changes alone is going to cost $$$$$. Ask any owner of a 996.2 and a 996RS and they will confirm the 996RS is more than then sum of it's parts.

Full results from day:

996.1 GT3 - 357hp
996.2 GT3 - 390-399hp
996.2 RS - 408hp (418hp with mods)
997.1 GT3 - 415hp
997.1 RS - unfortunately would not play ball on the dyno..but was very happy once off it
997.2 GT3 - 419hp
997.2 RS - 456hp (487hp with centre muffler bypass)
997.2 RS 4.0 - 490

Yeah those numbers are all high but as you say those deltas are interesting. Maybe it supports the myth that the RS cars all got the strongest engines. What suspension differences do the RS cars have over the 6-3? I haven't driven an RS so I can only speculate but my car has every bush replaced with spherical bearings, race dampers, a shorter final drive and a LWFW with cup diff and a full exhaust system without cats, along with as much weight reduction as possible without stripping interior - mods that many cars on this forum also have and they do make the car very raw and wake it up quite a lot. Enough to catch or keep up with a stock RS? I have no idea but I would like to think so. It depends on what you classify as "modded" I guess.
