Default GT2 Vs GT3 Vs 996TT

Hi guys I'm new to this board but not to Porsche. I always liked them. Right now I have 02 Viper GTS that has over 500HP. I would like to trade it for a different car. I'm looking at Porsches and used Lambos. So the question to you is...is it worth getting 02 GT2 at ~150K...or new GT3 or moded 996TT with 600HP. I would like a car that would be as fast as Viper but how is 380HP GT3 the fastest Porsche? Also what does X50 mean?
I do some road racing but want to have fun on the weekends. So which car would be the fastest for the street, most unique looking and would not depreciate as fas as used Jaguar? Also a one that can keep up with stock Vipers and Corvettes.

Default 996 TT Moded

If I were you I would go with a used TT with 6K miles or so and mod it. The money you would save by going used would allow you to mod to 600HP and still be under 100K.

I don't have much expierence with moding the GT3's, so can not say much. It's also still up in the air if the GT3's will hold their value.

The GT2 is great car. 25% of them are totalled so you better know what you are doing when you jump in to one of these. I haven't followed the resale value of the GT2.

It's a great time to by a used TT.

Get a used 996TT and modify it. It's a much better route and cheaper if you plan to modify. A number of x50 owners will also agree that if you plan to modify, stick with the 996TT.

X50 is the "power kit" that yeilds about 450HP vs. the 415hp for the standard 996TT.

All of the cars that you are considering will keep up with stock vipers and will certainly walk away from stock corvettes and the like.

Buy a used 911turbo. Easy to mod, can get 500+hp with only $6k investment. To get to 600, will cost you more.

X50--porsche installed option on 2002- Turbos which increase hp from 415 to 450. option price $18k, really not bringing much on resale although dealers will have you believe it does on the retail side. if you can find a used x50 that is only $3-5k more than regular turbo I would consider it otherwise money better spent on mods to standard turbo

GT3- faster track car than turbo, but not fastest Porsche, turbo beats it in all straight line performance. Harder to drive fast, revs always must be kept high(lower torque & hp than turbo)

GT2- Watt, how about some help....I personally do not have much experience with this car, although I do love the looks/performance.

Hope that helps

you forgot to mention the X50 comes w/ a beefier tranny, also. From what I've read on the board, the X50 option is the same motor that is in the GT2

It'd be smart to grab an x50 if you can find one used for 5-6K over a base turbo. The tranny and K24 turbo's it comes w/ alone make it a smart decision

I believe a 700hp Stage V kit is about to be released by Evolution Motorsports.

Wow...not bad for bolt-ons! Just for 30K on a Viper you can get 800+RWHP and the 700HP rating here is at the motor.
I found some 01 TT's at Dupont Registry. They were in high 80's and low 90's. Any recalls or anything different from 01 to 02? That must be fun to have AWD with 700HP even I'll be slower than my friend with ~850RWHP Viper I should take him from a dig.
Can somebody post any other Porsche tuner links? Also who makes the best body kits? I love the way GT2 looks.

Here are pics of my Viper.

Yeah, but EVO Stage 5 uses twin Garrett T04B turbos. It is a nice setup, and I look forward to seeing the results.

Wilber on this board can design you a K24 upgrade package with software and intercoolers good for about 550hp+ for about $10K.

If you want serious performance out of a 996TT, I would recommend Protomotive or the Nardo engine package from Ruf.

Your friend may have 850hp from a Viper, but that's only good for drag racing. As you know, the Viper has a lot of problems putting power to the ground instead of going sideways or kicking up smoke. Not even the ALMS or Le Mans spec GTS-class Vipers are running more than 700hp or so. Why do you think?

Porsches are designed for road racing, not as dragsters.

ElDiablo Viper,

viper is too crazy to drive. u'll be happy with the TT in everyway because hp is not everything.

Hi Diablo, I'm new to this board too, although I have been lurking for a few weeks. I just sold my 2000 Viper GTS/ACR which I had bought new. I put 15,000 miles on it and drove it on the track a few times. I didn't mod it.

I just bought a slightly used 2003 TT with X-50 and aero kit. I am extremely happy with the decision. What a difference in cars! The TT is as fast or faster than the Viper and it sticks to the road. I'm sure I could beat the Viper on the straights, curves, or stopping power. It's quieter and more civilized for long distance driving. I made a few long distance trips in the Viper and the heat and the inside noise gets to you after awhile as you know. Not to mention to that it is extremely interesting driving the Viper in the rain. The biggest difference I noticed before even driving it was the fit and finish when I sat in the TT. The Viper is, well, you know still a Dodge.

I thought of getting the GT3 or GT2, but then changed my mind after driving the TT/X50. The TT is a fantastic car and there is a lot of potential for mods if so inclined. Test drive one and decide.

a gt2 at <150 is already depreciated and answers your street perforamnce needs which however seem externally focused; this is not a good attitiude for a gt2. it will kick your *** while you're concerned with the car next to you.

hotrod TT's seem to fit your needs, and are safer for your usage, but mod'd cars bring 50 cents on the $1 so YOU are actually depreciating your own car by mod'g it. of course buying one for .50/$1 is a good entry.

until you value Porsche handling and braking as much a power, i don't think gt3 is your bag.

here's my favourite beginner's gt2 after a rough night

Comparing 996 TT horsepower with Viper horsepower is a waste of time. Modding a Porsche costs a lot more than a Dodge. If you're looking for cheap you don't want to be looking for a Porsche.
