Default DME range 1 numbers

Ive come across a car that has 30K miles, the DME showed no range 2 over revs but 57,000 ignitions in range 1. I know the car has seen quite a bit of track time and realise this is a high number for range 1. The consensus seems to be that range 1 does not cause any engine damage and is triggered by hitting the rev limiter. Some threads I've read suggest range 1 can also be triggered by running close to the rev limit but not actually hitting it?

Looking for clarification on this. I'm not looking for a museum piece, I want to enjoy the car for what it was built for (to be driven hard on the track) but would like opinions on this number of range 1 being detrimental or not.

Thanks

Range 1 has no affect on the engine at all. Just when hitting redline then the fuel is cut off. No worries in my mind.

cub10, Take a look at the first few topics in this forum.

Admin: Must read GT3 threads by 911slow

This contains a lot of info on the DME readout which was very helpful for me when I bought my GT3.

Good luck, Tom

Out of curiosity, if range 1 is not detrimental, why does porsche engineer the DME to record them? Could a PDK car trigger range 1?

Any car can trigger a Range 1. I can't think of why they record them other than to show that the rev limiter works.
