Default Cleaning cosmoline off the engine?

Anyone have suggestions on an effective way of cleaning the cosmoline off the engine case? Any products that work? My engine is split and I'd like to clean up the case prior to reassembly...

Thx...

it is essential just sprayed-on wax, mild heat and light solvents work well....maybe even try WD40 or similar to start

You may not want to do it if you live in an area with salt. Roads or the sea.

I've used WD-40 with good results. Still requires "elbow grease" but the results are satisfactory.

No worries. Car doesn't see road duty...

Steam and heat will be the easiest. Basically you just melt the stuff off. Will still require some elbow grease.
