Default 1_GT3 > 6_3? Probably.

But not today.

Gotta love the old school engineering. 6_3 driven hard can give newer cars a run for their money.

Our only hope against the 991 is driver ability in the '6

We have a local guy who now has quite a bit of seat time in his 991, running on Pirelli slicks and I can no longer keep up. I could get a point when he first got the car, but don't stand a chance any longer.

He used to pull over and lift, point me by, get back on the gas and nearly run me over down the back straight at our local track. Not only does the car have 100hp more than us, much wider track, and basically the same weight...it also has a MASSIVE gearing advantage. His 991 shifts around 20 times per lap at Mid Ohio. I shift 4 times per lap.

I can give even the fastest 3.8 RS cars a run for their money even with the power, aero and gearing advantage they have but the 991 is quite frankly in another league. Impressive how far the car has come.

nice video. It looks like the 996 has an advantage on the slower tighter corners vs the 991 and a better driver. In some of the corners the lines were completely different.

Hi Tom
It was good to see your car out there. We did not get to talk but I saw you running fast, and as usual you were probably the fastest car out there. One thing for sure, it was a beautiful weekend.
There is a thread in the 991GT3 forum on the same subject, ie chasing down Trey. :-)

A sound clip from same event. I'm the second car after the BMW, Rovman in the yellow.
Sport cat, x pipe and no muffler creates an awesome symphony.

^^^^^ It is extremely bumpy!!!! That is MSRH , south of Houston just out of Angleton, Tx.

Like you Tom I was able to catch him when he ran in our group as well. Before I could pass he exited to the pits. In his defense though, his tires were pretty shot as well as I don't think his current alignment is track favorable either.

Very Good driving as usuall though Tom.

I also had fun chasing down the Red 997.2 GT3 on slicks. Big fun to hustle the older iron around.

I sent you a PM, but here is the info.

Chris,

The car is almost stock. I put new springs on and had the OEM shocks revalved. Locking rear toe, but almost everything else is stock on the suspension. Engine is stock. ECU stock. Engine/Transmission mounts stock. LSD is stock but was rebuilt. Stock seats. Factory roll bar. Stock wheels. I had Fabspeed bypass pipes on for the track, but I normally run stock exhaust. No LWFW.

The biggest change is the wing. I got an Aeromotions wing because I couldn't source a GT3 one. But I run the stock front splitter.

And an aggressive alignment.

Good luck!

[edit - pads are PFC and I'm running cheap Cayenne rotors on the front]

I tell you, the little lotus was the hardest car to pass. His fast time was 1:43.xx this weekend, and when he's cracking off 1:44s and 45s back to back, it takes a lot of effort to get a pass.

I couldn't bust into the 1:42s this weekend, which is disappointing as I was actually hoping for 41s and my theoretical showed low 1:42s. On Sunday after the track was rubbered in, I thought it was possible, but I have passengers almost all the time and I never push it with a rider. I have other excuses as well, but I like that one the best
