2004 GT2 a laugher

Can someone please explain to me two things.1) Why is Porsche even bothering to send just 8 or 9 2004 GT 2s to NA. If your only going to send so little what is the point? 2) Greg A how did you learn about the CGT problem and why are dealers readily accepting 05 CGT deposits on a car they cannot send to america?

My $.02...
Porsche would have done better to release the 04 GT2 as a GT2rs similar to what they did the GT3rs. With more power, PCCB, standard cage, lighter weight, and some graphics ... all that in a limited production run (200)... they could have been onto something.

It's hard for me to complain about Porsche. My car's been great (ttX50), they've stood behind every complaint (new tires at 6500 miles when the Pirelli's went out of round) and keep improving the product. Sure, they're in business to make the most money they can, so they won't give away more than they have to. But, is anyone doing it better? AS

According to the press release, the wing is real carbon, but that isn't the problem. It states that the door mirrors and slats in the front apron are "carbon look". Why would Porsche make the distinction if these parts were also real carbon fiber? What is the point of cosmetic additions on a pure sports car?
Les,
Someone posted the petition on another forum a few months ago. No one really commented on it at the time and I don't think many people know that Porsche is having a problem with this. I have not yet found an update regarding the petition status.

Not to be the bearer of bad tidings but the interior carbon items offered by Porsche are no more real carbon fiber pieces than the exterior mirrors and the slats -- they are decorative applique laminated onto existing surfaces that, in fact, add weight. Having said this, the quality of this work is excellent -- better than I have seen from any other OEM.

Three Wheelin'
Robert is correct, all the carbon parts are infact much heavier than the stock plastic vinyl. The carbon is added on/over these stock pieces. I was surprised how much these pieces weigh.
But they do look spectacular.

I just noticed that the price in the UK has jumped by £10,000, which is about $16,000.......
Seems a lot for whats offered ie different wheels and ecu and optional spoiler.
Should help residuals for existing cars though.

Advanced
Irrespective of all the complaints and objections, in my opinion, this always has been and remains a great car. I am really glad that Porsche chose to build it and delighted that they have brought it into the US market.

I think the main point is that Porsche is offering "rice" as a factory option, and many of us "purists" object to that.
I think Porsche should not offer a "carbon look" interior. It should offer a true, Carbon Fibre replacement panel, with a smooth, concours finish.
Having the carbon fibre wing remain "unpainted" doesn't make the car go faster - it simply makes it look more like a rice boy's honda.
I'll bet you the next option will be an unpainted CF hood!!!! PLEASE NO!!!
The car can look fast and GO fast without looking like a rice rocket, thank you.

But why build 8 or 9 for North America what is the business plan of 8 or 9 cars. Why remap an ECU, take away the exclusive GT 3 wheels put them on an GT 2 , tinker with the suspension. Then build so little for America. Of course I also don't understand why Porsche offers Gt silver on the CGT and descibes it as exclusive to that car then puts it on the anniversary 911. If Porsche believes they can only sell 8 04 GT 2s because so many 03 GT 2s remain unsold why bother with an 04?

Limited production, I dont think so, Wiedeking himself said that the GT2 was not a limited production vehicle. This was said at 2001 Detroit Autoshow, I know, I was there. What does it matter if a car isnt limited production? to me a car isnt a gold chain accessory, I could care less if someone else in town has one, as for resale, let me tell everyone here all cars depreciate, with few exceptions i.e Enzo and Carrera GT (maybe) but overall if you can afford this kind of car you can afford the depreciation, and if you want to make money then cars arent the smart choice. When will they stop making the turbo, when demand drops, there isnt some limited amount of years they cant go past. As for The carbon tail, I like it! It's one of the neat things about Porsche you can personalize your car, as for limiting production why do it?, to make specualtors happy? I wish a GT2 for all my Porsche friends
