Windshield replacement
How complicated of a job is it? Should a Porsche shop/dealer do it or a non-specialist shop is fine? Any horror stories with problems after a botched job?

A lot of time dealers / shops outsource that to the windshield specialist anyway. So you probably can ask ahead.
My insurance paid for a replacement a few years ago and I think Safelite did it at one of their shops. They ordered the OE windshield and did a good job.

Three Wheelin'
Speciality service. I know some really good porsche race shops that outsource the work.

Thx for all the replies. Car is in CT. I understand zero-deductible windshield coverage is mandatory in CT. Does that usually cover OEM glass or is that extra?
Why not call Safelite?
Anyone put that ClearPlex windshield protection cover? Windshield gets all chipped out at the track.

Safelite worked with me and ordered the OE glass without a problem (and no additional charge) because they tell the insurance company that only the OE glass has the built-in antenna, etc.
After talking to them on the phone first, explain to them what kind of car, etc. They wanted the car at the shop (while I wait) and want to spend more time working on it (instead of doing the mobile service like what they do with "regular" cars), and they did a good job. I gave one of the employees there a ride afterward, etc.

It is not a difficult job. Buy the OEM glass and have a glass specialist come over and install it. In NC the prices range from $75 to $150 for the labor.

Ask your dealer who they use. My dealer will ONLY use one company locally and they know all the ins and outs of the cars. Especially make sure they are careful not to damage the leather on the A pillar or dash. I drop off at dealer and they sub out the labor to the glass company and the dealer makes their money on my purchase of the factory glass. I have done 1/2 dozen windshields over the last 10 years with them and will only use them.

it's all OEM glass. Spensor *** has changed my windshield in CT. Safelite not up to speed for Porsche. Any CVR approved location or who the dealer uses is the best path.

Replace Trim Seal with the Glass?
A local glass pro that knows Porsches will be installing a new OEM windshield in my 6GT3. This will be the second replacement, the first was done last summer at a local Porsche dealer, by a different local pro.
Does the OEM windshield come with a new trim seal?
If not, should the trim seal always be replaced with the glass - I've heard that sometimes it is reused, but don't know if that is possible.
If the seal was not replaced last year is it likely it will need to be this time?
Lead time on the glass was a week, hopefully the seal will be quicker.
Thanks
