GT-3 Discovery
Was able to view a new GT-3 today at a local dealer. Mine is in transit. I was pleasently suprised to see these cars are built without any shutz/undercoating or cosmoline applied to the bottom. Very RS! I would also imagine there is also no cavity wax. This has to save some weight. The underside reminded me of a Cup car. Was the GT-2 also deleted of undercoating?

What, you haven't cleaned the cosmoline off yet Karl? I'm waiting anxiously for your GT3 diary pages to be updated with what product will actually remove the stuff and not etch the metal.

There was a recent post about what would take off the cosmoline...if this link doesn't work, so a search for cosmoline

Rennman, sounds like dealer did a little cleaning before they put that baby out on the floor....

Karl, lynn,
Does your car have undercoating or painted metal? The car I viewed was #126. It definitely was clean without cosmoline ect. and was not even prepped yet. Wurth citrus degreaser will clean off the cosmoline without hurting the paint, aluminum or you!

cosmoline
Checked out that pic on the above link. the car I looked at was definitely without the cosmoline, However it looks like Porsche just sprayed the alloy parts and not the underside of the bodytub as on earlier cars. My RSAwas loaded with this stuff everyplace. It is relatively easy to remove from the non sheetmetal parts. The good part is no undercoat/shutz!!

there is something strange about this.....my car looks exactly like the car in the picture. Cosmoline....
Porsche always ships to the US with this.
Could this car have been flown in?
or delivered in Europe?
The cosmoline is unsightly, but an excellent protectant

I doubt it was flown in. I was really suprised to not see the undercoating/shutz. That is the important one. I guess the dealer could have removed the cosmoline? As I mentioned it comes off relatively easy with the Wurth product anyway. I will try to take another look.

I know of 3 factory race cars that came over on vessel without cosmoline. Two of them had been test driven in winter-by the factory drivers-as they all are. Cosmoline would have been good for those cars or better,... an airplane ride.
