Are the 997.1 headers a direct swap for 996? Would you need to replace existing CAT section to get full benefit?

I have 997.2 RS headers on my 996GT3 and can attest to the big improvement they make to the car. Those that have seen my car on track can tell you how strong it runs. This is a great price for an easy performance boost, assuming your matching the back end of the system to the headers.

mmuller,

Did you convert your 996GT3 to center exit exhaust then? Cup rear bumper?

Yes and yes. But worth it. I personally saw 12 rwhp alone before adding a tune to get even more from a better breathing motor.

Very nice.. so it is just the header into a center muffler, bypass the side muffler, I am guessing?

Correct. Similar in design to what 997 Cups have. Significantly shorter pipe length overall with a better path, plus a great weight saving in one of the best places for the car. And it makes power.

Best of all, its basically OEM.

I am afraid that it won't pass sound at some tracks.. not sure, the only way to find out is test it, I guess!

I have a set if turndowns from AEM that just bolt in place of the rear tips on the stock center box. I run lime rock 2 or 3 times a year like this with no issue.

Give it a try.

I have the same system and at Roebling Road, 103db limit, my car was in the 95/96db range. This with no turndowns.

So would a 997 setup with headers and a center muffler be better than a full 996 aftermarket exhaust with a crossover pipe?

If so what's the advantage? Shorter piping overall?

I have these headers and cats, but I didn't want to change out the bumper so I had my tech run the exhaust to the opposite sides like in a stock set up just with no mufflers. I is very loud. I may have him install some mufflers to quiet it down. But it does sound good though.
