Default How many HC do you get out of your R6s?

I ran 2 sets of R6 so far on my 6GT3 and can't get more than 10-14 HCs on them before they cord. On other threads, I read people getting >20 HC. How do you do it? Well of course beside driving slow!

Here is some data:
1st set of R6 - 315/255 - Got 14HC before the rears corded. Fronts were losing grip by that time and car would understeer on corner entry.
2nd set of R6 - 295/235 - Got 9HC before the rears corded. HC 6-9 were absolutely terrible with no grip.
NOTE: I target 34psi hot all around

I ran set no.2 (295/235) this week-end at Chuckwalla and couldn't get better than 2:06 lap time (this was HC 6-9). I switched to a 3rd fresh set of R6 (315/255) after cording set no.2 and drop my time to 1:59. That's 7sec! I know the fresh set had wider rears but that's still a big difference.

Obviously, my 2nd set was HC out already with less 10 HCs. Back to my original question, how do you guys get >20HC out of your R6s?

Where on tire it's cording at? Camber and toe settings/tire pressures plays a role on wearing. I've done 27 hc's but after 15 hc's it's slides quite abit. U probably need a pyrometer to see if temps are even across the width of tire. Mike

Cording on inside edge, but tire wear looks pretty even across the width. Basically, the R6s looks like slicks when they cord so outside edge cording is not far behind. Rear camber is set as a compromise. R6s wear slightly more on the inside but when I run Hankook TDs, they wear slightly more on the outside.

I could probably get 1-2 more HCs if I fine tune the camber but I'm still barely over 10-15. I don't mind running tires with no grip, good for practicing car control and would love to get 27HCs out of the R6s!

What are your alignment settings? Also, you should be swapping sides and also flipping the tires on the rims to extend life. You can't just mount and run and expect to get 20HCs. Inside edge could mean to much negative camber or too much toe in. Or, a lot of straights on your track.

On my car, if I am diligent with tire swapping/flipping, I can easily get 16 HCs with some tread left. They are only "fast" for the first 10 or so, but still workable for the next 10. That's 2 full weekends on sticker tires. I may be able to get another day (up to 20 HCs) out of them, but you really need to watch the tires on that last day.

It sounds like you have a bunch of camber in the rear.Lately I have been running a square camber setup of 2.75 and run the 245/315 setup.I never cord one they just give up the grip between 16-20 HC
I would check the alignment cause it makes some sense to me that getting way quicker on the wider tire is also indicative of too much camber .Where are the sway bars?

After 20 hc's- I'm very active with the steering wheel : ). Like he said rotate and flip will extend life of tire. I love kuhmos better though. Still had a great grip until it corded at 38 hcs and ran another 4 hcs(sliding everywhere)if u can find the 305. Great tire. Mike

I have never gotten more than 16 heat cycles out of r6's or Kuhmos. Sometimes they cord. Sometimes I get frustrated when my friends are passing me and I just switch to New ones. Average 12 to 14 then throw them out.

Rear is full stiff, front is 1-2 holes from full stiff.

OK, I'm not the only one!

I'm in SoCal so not as smooth as you guys but still not bad. This past week-end I was at Chuckwalla and that is pretty smooth track.

What tire do you like? I'm going to need tires for the TH day. With the expected amount of driving we'll have, I would need 2 sets of R6s for that day alone

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words... here it is the tire in question after 9 HCs (other rear looks similar but not corded yet, but close). Each HC are 10-20mins. You can see from the picture that although the inner edge corded, the outer edge is not far behind... maybe 1-2 HCs. From this I'm concluding that my alignment is probably OK, anything I'm missing?

EDIT: TIRE SIZE IS 295/30/18. LABEL ON PICTURE IS WRONG.

I use 315 rears and 245 or 255 fronts. Why 295? Mike

I go with 315/255 as well if I buy new. I got this 295/245 set at a discounted price.

I realize my answer could be confusing... the 295 set was also new but was an unwanted set ordered in error that they wanted to get rid off, and why the discount. If I have a choice, I always go for 315.

Assuming your car is setup properly, I think the tread usage will be determined on how fast you are driving. I have lots of tires with plenty of tread left but heat cycled out. This really encourages me to get faster lap times....
Most tires that I own have lost significant grip after 6-8 heat cycles.

Rear is full stiff, front is 1-2 holes from full stiff.
Cording aside, I am happy if I can erase both of the grooves before they cord. As others have noted, driving fast accelerates wear. Your camber settings are higher than I use, although the car is new to me and I've only driven it one event so far. Based on wear of others that are good drivers and don't cord their rears, I set my camber at -2.5 front and -2.0. Tire temps would be helpful and you might want to try reducing the camber.
