I'm going nuts! My 04GT3 has arrived and is sitting at the dealer's waiting for local homologation to put it on the road. Can't wait to drive it.

It sits a bit higher than my mk1 GT3. Was told by the mechanics that the ride height will "settle a bit" after the car's been driven for a while. Any truth to this?

I've ridden in the 04 on track and when you guys are done with break-in, you're going to love the howl above 5,000rpm. The 04 is a lot smoother at idle and more muted at low rpm than the 1st gen. but believe me, the intake and exhaust note at high rpm is to die for - sounds a lot better than the mk1 in stock form.

Heard from people at Weissach that the car doesn't need a break-in period. It is likely that I will continue to be prudent when I take delivery but what have you guys been told on this subject?

Anyone have a non-PCCB car? I saw yellow pads on mine. Are these Pagids? The only yellow Pagids that I've heard of are made of a ceramic compound and they're too thick to fit anti squeel shims. Be curious to see how the new generation brakes performs - the mk1 brakes definitely required racing pads and additional cooling.

Yes, the pads with the steel rotor system are Pagids. They are stamped P 90-2 on the rear and P 90 on the fronts. They do have the anti-squeel shims and wear sensors installed on them.

OK, here is an expert opinion from Mr. Manthey of Manthey Racing to shed some light on GT2 vs. GT3.

"Is to be gone out in each case from a standard car in delivered work condition.

The GT3 is more agile than the GT2 or 996 Turbo Allrad for following reasons:

The GT3 is 70 kg ligher than the GT2 and approximately 120 kg lighter than the 996 Turbo Allrad. The springs and shockabsorber setting unities are sporting tight. The rolling moment is lower. Therefore, the GT3 is faster on handlingscourse. On racing distances with long straight lines the GT2 is faster. If the GT2 is fitted with our springs and shockabsorber and our increase in output, then the GT2 will be faster than the GT3.

However, on completely close racecourse because of the weight advantage a GT3 improved by us again has the advantage."

So apparently, the suspensions of the GT2 and GT3, even though they may share similar or identical parts, are indeed configured differently.

Well, the defense rests as to why I picked the GT3.

Mr. Manthey with his racing record knows a lot more about race cars than I do, so I just go with the best recommendation. This opinion has been shared by other people that I know in motorsports as well.

So if Watt doesn't want the GT3, someone on this board should grab it, because it is a sweeeeeeeet car. Too bad Carrera White isn't my favorite color, although it does look nice!

There is still a recommended break in period for these cars.

Although Manthey Racing has told someone here that the GT3 is pretty much ready to go right out of the box.

yes it's for sale: a great car but gt2 suits my purposes better:
- am changing suspension from factory for better handling and high speed stability
- gt3 has to be changed from factory for high speed stability above 150 also
- gt3 has great initial throttle but less behind that, and will need very low 2,3, 4 to uphill canyon slam... can't come out of 2nd gear uphill hairpins at 4,000 which is where current box is.
- car handles like a dream!!! corners righteously!!!!
- exhaust is loud!!! and cool/
- i think manthey is right on a flat track. but not in the mountains, and not running to Nevada with repeated 30-150 redline accelerations.

Watt, will you be doing some mods to the engine of the GT2?, that engine has so much output potential with mods comapared to the N/A.

So you'll be bringing the GT2 to the Gambler?

jake,
the gt2 is coming to Elko; look me up, it's very hard to see and catch being SY.... almost invisible....

carlos,
yes i've been talking with ruf on some changes... but until the high speed instability purposely installed by the fatory is fixed, it's secondary.. and like coke, more power is not enough until it's too much... discretion required... but a ruf package would be nice and a ruf car would be nicer!!!!
