Short Shifter (Tequipment) 996 GT3 2004
HI,
Has anybody ever fitted a short shifter (Tequipment) to a 996 GT3 or similar? If so what are your thoughts and is it worth it?

I have never tried the short shift kit from Tequipment but have installed the 997 shift console in my 6GT3 and love it. Much more direct, like the 997 GT3...also much less expensive.

Actually it's not a very good idea. They feel terrible.
GT3s feature a specific short lever ratio on the transmission input lever.
(on the gearbox side) and that makes any shifter feel shorter in a GT3 although both 99x generations, used the standard Carrera/boxster shifters.
That's why short shifters designed for the standard cars/GBs should be avoided in a GT3.
If you prefer the throws of your current (Boxster) shifter get the proven 996 Cup shifter that ISN'T shorter or if you like them a bit shorter get the 997 shifter (btw again the 997.1 GT3 used the same shifter as the 997 Carrera cars ) which is as short as you'd want to go. The 997.2 GT3 shifter is about the same in throws but with more metal inside and thus more robust. A better choice but more expensive.
Also note that shifters are nice but the Cup cables can make the biggest difference if you don't mind the added noise (vibration actually because there's no dampening in the attachment points, more if you have a LWFW installed).

Have to agree with 911SLOW. A few years ago I swapped out the stock 996 GT3 shifter for the Porsche 997 short shifter. The feel is too notchy and I prefer the old version.

I had the B&M ssk in mine for not a very long time. Too notchy, and too stiff. I now have the 997 standard shifter with Numeric cables. Very nice, IMHO.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I think it seems to possibly come down to personal preference once fitted. Ideally want to keep OEM parts fitted where possible as I want it to be stock for future resale value.
Any other good recommendations or modifications that you can suggest would be great? Car will be almost a pure track weekend car so not an issue with noise or being to firm.
