Default Quick Oil Question

Is 5W40 okay for Southern California climate in my 6GT3? Reason why is that the service manual calls for 0W40 but the shop that usually changes my oil (Motul) didn't have the exact formula available and was going to substitute. I can only remember it was Motul in a metal can, possibly based with caster oil, and listed a 6 hp gain on a 997 GT3 on back of can.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Pros or cons

It is fine. Motul 8100 5W40 is actually on the Porsche's approve list anyway.

After much research ( Raby -- Callas ) I started using Motul 8100 5W40. Might be using Penrite in the future though. We're waiting for the test results from Blackstone.

If it is in a metal can its 300v which is arguably the best oil on the market for high performance applications. The only drawback is the additives can contaminate the cats. I've been told to drive the car hard and that will not be an issue.

300v in 5w-40 weight is what resides I my car.

Andy,

Those 300V are quite expensive! How many days do you use the oil for?

I just run the 8100 5W-40 / (and sometimes Mobil 1 0-40, 5-50), and just run them for 4 days..

Yep 300V Power was it. That exact viscosity. 300V Trophy is the 0W40. and I was mistaken. It is Ester oil based. My mechanic swears by it. +1 for Motul

It is spendy but worth it to me since my car sees some track time. I would have switched sooner but I was paranoid about hurting the cats so I ran 8100 until I went cat less.

You can extend change intervals some with 300v...how much I will better determine this year with some oil analysis. Last year I ran 300v 6 days vs 4 day change intervals with 8100

BMW has the 0-60 oil that I use in my E92 M3. Wonder if that would make a difference in the GT3 v the Mobil1 0-40.

Motul has changed the 300v formulation, zinc and phosphorous levels are much lower than the old formula. No risk of harming cats, but I'm still looking for something with higher Z and P levels.

I take it your "days" were track days? Or am I completely stupid?
