Interest in Joe Toth splitter for OEM 996 GT2
Hi Guys,
Joe said he'd be interested in making a splitter (like for the GT3s) for our cars if he could get hold of a mold.
Anyone in the Vancouver area with an oem GT2 front end (preferably actual GT2) that could be a guinea pig?
Feel free to post interest here even if you aren't available to be the tester.
Thanks!
Henry

Joe Toth rocks. No doubt.
This community is lucky to have him.
However, IMO, having a deep GT3-like lip in a rigid carbon form is probably a bad idea given it's susceptibility of scraping, on the street at least.

Just an fyi, I'm pretty sure Joe would need a front bumper, not a stock splitter, in order to properly mold a GT2 splitter. I've had no issues at all with my 2-piece race splitter (I run just the top piece on the street). My daily drive to the office includes several speedbumps and one steep driveway. Mine's f/g, and yes it scrapes every once in a while but no damage has incurred.

Personally, I need this for the track. It's going to get scratched so FG or Poly or whatever is great. No CF for me. The 2 piece version would also help getting it back into the trailer without much hassle.
Joe's response to the OEM splitter help:
"Henry,
The oem lip would be a good start. The problem is without being attached to the car they are flexible to the point I have no idea on measurements or even curves. It's really hard without the piece being secure and fixed in the correct position.
Joe"
Makes sense.
Who's got a GT2 out in the great Northwest ??

If this project moves forward we would be interested in looking at the product for our car. I'm sure that you will need the car there as well to get accurate numbers the entire nose section is flexible.

IanM : thanks much, you can see how much my white GT2 flexes up front. I'm probably only going 90mph in that pic, too. Maybe less. I wonder if the OEM mounting points could even hold the splitter on at speed, haha. That thing is like a plastic bag flapping in the wind up there.
Vonschmidt: Great -- I'm still hunting an OEM GT2 front for JoeT to get a mold from.
If everyone can keep their eyes open for someone posting about their GT2 in the Pacific NW area that would be super helpful. I'm trying to dig through old posts on all the forums but still coming up empty.

GT2 splitter
Morning Gentlemen,
All I would really need to build this part is a front bumper and some good measurements. This is what I did for the '14 Cayman piece and it worked out great. Made a wooden frame to hold the bumper in proper and correct position and went ahead with the design and development work. The part fit perfectly on the car which I never saw in person. Let's see if there is a bumper somewhere close I can use.
Thanks,
Joe

i am still looking for a donor vehicle to make this part. Will someone either post or email me a few close up pics of the front bumper/splitter on their car. I am starting on a 996TT this week and want to see the differences between the two cars. Thank you
