Default Has Anyone Done a Softronic ECU Flash of Their GT3?

Since the 996 GT3 is so rare in Canada, I haven't even seen another 996 GT3, let alone spoken to anyone with a Softronic ECU flash.

Has anyone done this flash on a 996 GT3 and do you feel it improved performance?

I did an UMW flash on my 996 TT x50 - it TOTALLY transformed the car. I highly recommend this option.

Not sure about the 997 but my hunch is you are on the right track. Kevin at Ultimate is a great resource.

Full disclosure - no affiliation to Ultimate Motor Works, sold the car. Miss it.

Big gains from turbo re-flash. NA, not as much.

Dave Dudley had a Softronic reflash on his 6GT3 that he liked very much. Do a search to read his impression. He may have an extra ECU for sale too.

While it's not a softronic flash, i do have a 996 gt3 ecu with an RS tuning flash on board for cheap... Here is a link

I called Softronic, and they said that their ECU reflash would only work for the car it was specifically reflashed for. If I had an ECU reflashed for someone else's car, I would have to return it to them to get it reflashed for my car, and pay the $1100.00. Don't know about RS tuning.

Does anyone have before/after dyno of their GT3 with a reflash, and no other simultaneous mod changes?

All the programming codes come with the RS tuning one, as seen in the pics... A competent tech can code it to the car in 20 mins - I am told

My tech says if a tech says it can't be done or that it takes hours - seek second opinion

My experience with gt3 says software is worth the hassle if you have added exhaust/headers - otherwise not so much

Can't find my dyno charts, but an FVD-Brombacher flash took me from 323 rwhp to 340. That equates to 380 hp to 400 hp. More importantly for me, I asked them to improve torque at the low-end for better streetability, which it did.

I had Tony at EPL flash my GT3, I've never had the car on a dyno but the engine and responsiveness appeared a bit smoother after, and better yet he was able to code out my CEL light from not having any and cats.

Rick Deman did a "special Flash" for me and tuned it on a dyno. Only a Ruf pulls me. I can feel it especially after around 6300 rpm. I'm delighted and my fellow track guys are always looking at me a little cross-eyed since I'm full interior etc. I think his guy changed like 30 parameters. I can left foot brake as well without cut-off. Thanks Rick. The dealerships even has a flash now I believe.

That's not true. My Softronic flashed car has passed your car at Pocono before.

Flashes have always intrigued me but I've never been convinced they are truly worth it for our N/A platform

Over Dyno data I'd like to see track data showing MPH difference as the result of a tune. I actually quite dislike when they change the mapping on the throttle and cause it to be overly sensitive. The last thing I need when trying to balance the car on it's limit is a more abrupt throttle input.

The previous owner of my car was at a track day at Road Atlanta where a vendor was pushing their flashes. He agreed to buy the flash if it could show a MPH difference at the end of the straight there. (150mph +). The company's rep road with him for the sample run then flashed the car and they went back out. NO MPH difference at all was seen as captured by Traqmate. He then allowed them to make tweaks to the tune and went out again and the results were the same. NO MPH change. Not convinced it was worth it he decided to pass and they flashed the car back to stock.

That's not to say all tunes are created equal, but those results have always kept me from considering a "standard" flash for our cars.

Andy,

I agree, but am still trying to be open minded. If I were to see convincing dyno data showing an increase, I might consider it. But I haven't yet. As you say, increasing the throttle mapping can make a big butt dyno impression, but data would be nice. Interesting to hear ltcjmramos' comments though.

Just gotta find my charts now that show the increases.

More hp was not my goal, but did get that 17 rwhp bump. I wanted a more streetable curve, which my butt dyno says I got, and the dyno showed.

Stay tuned.
