Default Driving without seat cushion?

For this new season, I am putting in a new driver's seat. I really liked my Sparco Pro 2000, but decided that I want something that I can put on the halo when at track. Sparco now makes one that has a removable head protection system so to me it is the best of both worlds.

Anyway, got the medium size one. The seat itself fits well when it comes to the width. However, due to slightly different shell size, I had to buy new side mounts for it. And whether it is the side mount or the seat itself, once I put the seat in the car, I feel I lost an inch or so head room.

Was pretty frustrated with the situation, then I realized that the seat / leg cushions are just velcroed on.. I took them off and instantly feel much better. It is a little bit stiff, but I think it should be okay.

Is that a stupid thing to do or I just got a seat with the wrong size? I really don't want a seat that's wider than this, though, as I think it would be too loose. Maybe this particular model of seat just doesn't fit me as well? (But this is the only model that has the removable head protection) Or customizing seat to fit you is just a fact of life?

Yeah, I will probably give that a try.. that would be the logical next step.. Just put the seat in today so haven't done anything else yet. But at least it is drivable at the moment.. !

I drive to the track with the seat cushions in then put helmet on and take seat cushion out. Feel the car better with less between my butt and seat...more connected.

I used 1” thick foam pad (“aerospace” cushion ) for a little comfort, but still plenty of car feel. Easy to cut to size and make an opening for the sub belts.

Pegasus sells these pads for $70, available here for less than half that.

I also do the same. I have the euro GT3 leather seats mind you but taking out the cushion puts me lower, keeps me in place better and gives me a better "feel" of what the car is doing.

Cool.. thanks for all the feedback. Makes me feel better that I am not the only one, ha ha! I will definitely look into either cutting the existing cushion down or get a memory foam thing. But will be testing out the seat without cushion in the mean time!

I drove without the seat cushion in the Euro GT3 seats. Only did it because I NEEDED the headroom at 6'4".
Currently mounting Recaro SPG XL as low as possible on rails and hoping that seat cushion can remain.

Yeah, I am not that tall (5'10") like you, so I was surprised to find the seat height being an issue. (Especially with the old Pro 2000 not being a problem) Like I said, it is probably a combination of both the seat and the new side mounts needed.

DHI is a tall glass of water...like basketball tall.
Take a look at Crazy Canuk's setup (also a giant redwood type), as he bolted his seat right to the floor. I think he did it so I could not drive his car and get all gushy about the motons...but that's another story.

Lots of options. Had you bought a Cobra seat, they do a whole range of varying seat cushions in varying thicknesses.

If you don't need the adjustibility of the sliders, (and indeed if they're fitted) remove them.

Other mounting options here :

I think you can tell from the caliber of track rats that replied that low as possible and cushion-less is best for track application, or if you must - "improved butt dyno/grip awareness".
