Sway bar drop Links
So I've got a worn out drop link that's started to clunk...Same corner my JRZ was leaking so not suprising it was probably under more load than it should have been. Shocks are getting re-built but I need to make a call on what to do about the drop link.
I've always been an OEM drop link type of guy. I realize in an ideal world this means I've got a little bit of pre-load in my front bar, however I've had aftermarket adjustable links on my cars in the past and I realize that no matter what you do they will make noise after a short period of time. That noise drives me bonkers as I still street drive my car a couple times a week.
Problem is drop links for my old 996 were $40 each...I replaced them a couple of times. OEM drop links for the GT3 are $290 each!!!...talk about luxury tax Guess I might as well just go aftermarket based on that price.
Curious who has what, if you use them on the street and how long before they started to make noise. I guess the big players are ERP (my preference), Tarett, TRG, RSS....I will not be considering any of the agency power junk. Wasn't a board memeber here making high quality units too? Info on those would be appreciated as well.
Thanks,
Andy

All you say is correct, oem for this are silly money, pretty much all the aftermarket rose joint's soon give up. I'm really happy with the cup units, adjustable with long lasting ends BUT: can't remember price ( but it was good) and can't locate part number.
Worth looking into though.

You can always build your own, using ball joints ends. Alternatively, you use oversized rod ends and rubber dust seals to extend life.
I used to make them for 944s, e30s, aircooled 911s, etc. There's over a hundred 944s running around with "Serge links."
Very good cost/quality ratio, especially the DTW- series: http://www.midwestcontrol.com/

We have had Tarett ones make noise even from new. I like their products but for a person who drives on street the noise can be an issue. Never seen one fail. We have not had any noise issues with the RSS drop links.
Tarett was kind enough to replace an inner joint on a rear toe link under warranty however.

I'm not 100% sure what comes with the link. You'd need to check your shop that has PMNA account to verify. 31, 33 are the nuts to attach to the sway. It looks like 32 is the drop link. And 34,35 are the nuts on the drop link. I think they'd call these jam nuts, they lock the adjustment in place, one is a right thread, other left thread.
Many of us with 997 use tarett with very good results. Mine make no noise after a year and 30 track days. The ends are replaceable too. Tarett is local (socal).
