Lightbulb 'Tough To Fill Gas' Gremlin Got Me

…at the track this past weekend. Frustrating, but I was able to fill ~4-5 gallons at a time with a gas can and funnel, then regardless, it would not take anymore. Researching here, this appears to be a fairly common problem, but no real ‘fix’ that I could find has ever been posted, besides the fuse replacement.

Thursday the car filled up just fine; Friday after my first session, and I ran it pretty low, I could hardly get any gas to go in from a standard pump. Tried another 2 pumps with the same results, even trying to barely squeeze the handle. Pissed me off to no end since it was fine the day before when I was 10min away from the dealer, now I was 3 hours away.

Looked at the fuses, all good. I could hear the solenoid clicking as the flap signal was made at the fuel filler door. There are actually 2 solenoids that activate for this gas tank ventilation/return system; have an appointment for Wed to get it resolved at the dealer.

Tried my best to hyper-mile the GT3 on the 3 hours drive home; got ~26.5mpg loaded down and on my NT01s. Only had to fill up once, with the funnel and a standard gas pump.

solenoid clicking and no gas fill?
WEIRD.

No gas fill happened to me a couple of years ago after 5 months of winter storage. Solenoid started clicking again after playing with the flap several times and filling up was ok thereafter.

My 997.2 did this last week. Completely refused to accept gas. Fuse was good. I stuck my finger in the hole and just played with the flap. Problem solved.

"My 997.2" Wait wut? lol I found it. Congrats

Yeah, did the same (finger + flap), several times, but to no avail - I think the second solenoid (or vent/check valve) is bad

Look up my post titled "gas overflowing " months ago. Sorry on phone can't post link. 2 valves. #23 and 12 on the diagram posted. One near gas tank other near cap Mine covered cpo. Lots of labor apparently getting through suspension. Mine works great now. The 2 valves gave out one last yr and the other this yr.

GL

Scott - sorry man. All I could do is try leaving you my gas can with the long hose. How much did you get to run? Was Friday it?

PS Found the reason for my horrible jerk! Getting resolved next week.

Hey Scott - have you reviewed your breather pipe? I think its a mission to get to - along MKK62 diagram in that other thread - ie need to take out the fuel tank and that means front axel I think - but that should control the pressure release from what I understand.

Spoke to my technician at the dealer. Based on troubleshooting, he thinks its the valve closest to the tank; we will replace both. I should have the GT3 back on Monday.

GT3 back to spec.

No matter what I did at the track, it wouldn't have fixed my issue. This first valve pictured, on top of the fuel tank, had gone bad. I replaced this one AND the one just off the fuel filler neck, the second pictured.

Good deal. You're a better mechanic than me.
