OK, now I really do have to ask: aside from the wide fenders - how does the C2 body differ from the C4? I was always under the impression that the difference was the floor pan?
Is there a history of the evolution of the 996 body from the '98 C2 to the 997 GT 2 RS somewhere? Changes to the original 911 body are well documented as are mods to stiffen/strengthen the chassis. Is there something similar for the 996/997?

Whether it started out as a c2 and modified as a c4 for the regular 996 or a whole new c4 body I have no clue. The front is definitely beefed up to allow the use of the all wheel drive system. If you actually saw the trunk bay of a c2 vs c4- c4 is definitely smaller. In my old '99 996 c2 I could put a full size tire in there but not in my gt3. Don't think gt3 is completely seam welded just the areas that need to be reinforced ie engine area. Mike
