From Calabogie to LCMT I've always gone through Ottawa. I've got a 26' trailer, ferry scares me, is it any faster. Never seem to get held up in Ottawa. Montreal nother story.

No need to be scared about the ferry, it's long enough and there's one every few minutes. But, I'm cheap, so would rather go through downtown to save the $$.

If not at rush hour downtown is faster as you can jump on the new Hwy 50 E rather than along the river (Hwy 148 I think).

I've taken the same route on my last two trips (2010 and 2012). Route 50 was extended (working towards the middle from Ottawa and Montreal) since 2010, but it is not complete and a section is two-lane. If I recall correctly, when 50E ends follow the signs south a couple of miles to 148E; after a few miles turn left on 323N which will take you to 117.
