I have decided: My street 996 GT3 will change ownership in a week from now and i am going to buy a 996 Cup car. Have been reading here a lot about it and will continue to do so till i am capable of pre selecting the right one. Have not found the right one yet. Thought about a 997 Cup but potential high costs of sequential gearbox overhaul scare me a bit. So i am off the street for a while ...........

Given your inclination o sustained track useyou had as well as racing... The Cup car was really only a question of time for you. Well done, good decision, can't wait to see what you will come up with.

Decisive moments came for me when i had to go on a weigh scale last time out at a race event.
I saw the 996 Cup in front of me putting 1270 Kg (2800 Pound US) on the scale incl driver. I had to go next and looked at 1510 kg (3330 Pound US).
Car/Driver (80kg) /FullCage/Fluids. That difference is like diving around with 3, slightly overweight buddies, ALL THE TIME. I also started to get more problems shifting and not being able to find 3rd smoothly coming back from 4 under full braking.

And i got very tempted to modify my car further. Took the inner carpets out which i can recommend to everybody. Saves some weigh and can be put it again without any damage. The LWFW comes alive and the extra sound in the cockpit is just amazingly cool. But going this route is addictive and i was already temped to start emptying more. Airbags, Airco, Door Panels, Console, Radio etc etc. Decided to get the car back in sellable state and go for a Cup. Was seriously contemplating a 997 Cup with throttle blipper until last night but decided to go for a 996 Cup instead for budget reasons only. The sequential box overhaul costs are is just to much for me now.

I think this decision crosses the mind of all DE enthusiasts.... I opted to spend some money to make the street GT3 track-worthy, but without crossing into "excessive". I have been tempted to go the "stripper" route (following Mooty's lead) and then doing Serge's 3.8 mod.... But the value of street GT3s is climbing in the states, and a GT3 Cup would make more sense.

Agree +1 million with Blake. I, and many of us, have gone down the rabbit hole of modding our "street" cars to the point they are no fun on the street anymore and have become 90-100% track use. At the end of the day, they are still a street car with track goodies but will never be a true track car. If you have your heart set on a P-Car then one of the most amazing platforms is the 6Cup. I have decided that my 7GT3 will only get a few track goodies, like the ones that are a necessity (i.e, toe arms and some safety equipment). If and when I get the time to go to the track again like days of old, then it will pick up a 6Cup and have fun the proper way. But right now, going 3-4 times a year, the lowly 7GT3 street car will have to do

It's just natural progress and common sense. Started 2 years ago tracking for the first time in my life.
Never drove anything on a track before. Went from a 2:13 on my local track Zandvoort to a 1:59 the other day. Same car but with even the added weight of the full cage. Would not have been able to drive a Cup back then at any of the possible speed but i think i am ready for it now.
For the money: I could theoretically swap the cars at this moment which is great of course. Much more fun and safety for almost no extra money.

Enjoyed the street car and tracking it so much. Any GT3 owner who does not do this and does not want to learn is missing out on 60% of the cars true potential. I have had no problems at all with this car for 15.000 track kilometers on a total of 94.000 kilometers and spend only money on tires, brakes and oil. Bulletproof

Also sounds like a lot of cups coming to market over the next while w 991, 8 cylinder alternatives for big semi-pros and age of the 996s. My eyes open too but I love my 6RS and driving to the track instead of all that other admin

thats a cup for sure. It wasn´t easy to legalize the car for street in germany but i remember when it was done some years ago. The former owner had a 993 GT3 RS that was changed for this cup car. He is quite active in an german porsche forum and he still drives a hardly modified 964 RS on the ring and is active in a historic porsche race series with a 993 GT2. When he says it was a cup then should this be fact and the current seller is his assistant race team and realy well known in germany...

Interesting. Just doesn't "seem" to look like your standard cup car. Looks more like a street GT3 that was gutted, modified, and had a cage installed. No data. No video, 1st part of VIN sticker torn off., etc..

Could very well be a cup. A VIN would confirm this. Either way, I really don't care. Just making an observation.

Haven't gone thru all the shots but definitely wierd that the back bumper has side and middle exhaust cutaways - ie it's now got a middle exit but the old side exits are still there.
