Hi Guys.
Sorry for the late reply, work has been busy lately.
First of all, the reason for swapping the DesignTek was not really out of need or being unhappy with it.
It was the usual "winter storage problem" where not driving the car but just reading magazines and surfing the net convinced me that I needed to see if there was a difference getting an exhaust of the very highest quality in the market today. My decision to buy this came from the article in 911&Porsche World in june2011, where the owner of a GT3 mk1 (a photographer in the magazine) had a factory visit and also published dyno information. In the end, with the exhaust and ECU upgrade from DMS Automotive (stock headers) he got 45hp more on the top end and 60hp more at 5600rpm. They couldn't belive it.
Ah yes, it really is a slippery slope.....
Finally got to drive the car last weekend, both on road and track.
Love the sound, it is really great. Not to loud when idling but screams out when really pushing hard. Measured 101dB at 45000rmp/0,5m at my track altough it is rated at 97db. Maybe the headers make it a little louder.
I also had DMS Automotive upgrade my ECU this winter, so all comparisons with the old exhaust is with the ECU upgrade, so it just might be a little unfair.
Anyway, the car pulls noticable harder now, keeping up with mk2's on the straights, and even a 996 turbo was only slightly faster on the straights (between 100-200kmh). Easy to feel the power difference, very happy. The power curve is also much smoother.
The system is very ligt, only 1.5kg heavier than the DesignTek so it is still about 20kg lighter than stock and one of the lightest systems on the market.
Here is a couple of bad videos for comparison, I tried to find the two most identical runs. The DesignTek one is not flat-out, and shifting is approx. at 6000rpm. The Cargraphic one is flat-out.
DesignTek:
Cargraphic/M&M:
It's really quiet inside the car as well, not even a hint of drone or excessive noise.
Love it.

Hope you like to spend your money..........
For those interested, the M&M headers and Cargraphic cats/mufflers and DMS remap wil cost appr. €5000, or appr. US$6200 according to list prices.
The Manthey K400 is listed at € 8330, and you will need the air intake adding another €510 to avoid the cup filter being a very-hot-air-intake.
That is appr. US$11000.......
The quality of the Cargraphic is second to none, and it is much lighter than the Manthey according to the specs. The 911&PW article shows that the Cargraphic/DMS configuration makes a lot of power as well, maching the Manthey kit.
Manthey has always been the reference for tuning 996GT3 here in Europe, but in my opinion Cargraphic caught up with them a long time ago for a much better price and with quality to match.
As for the M&M headers, I find it hard to argue against them since they build all the OEM cup exhausts for Porsche nowadays, and also manufacture the Manthey exhaust systems.
But you pay your price and make your choices, the Manthey is a thing of utter beauty and makes a glorious sound.

Most importantly with these systems you don't get the full on volume that you get with bypass pipes. My personal opinion is that if you can take the volume it's pretty hard to argue against bypass pipes based on the lack of benefits of most full systems. However, many like me drive their cars on a regular basis on the street and I just can't enjoy the car on the street with bypass pipes on it.

I think the easy Big gain is from mufflers being much lighter than stock, allowing also for no/less brackets too ... and with good ecu tuning 'claims' of 30-40 HP achieved by a couple of RLrs and sellers of similar systems all who you shd know well but that introduces the complexity of dyno reading which is not easy w cars relying on ram air etc.. Sound is 3rd nice to have but as Audi says above, for track cars only and as tracks clamp down on 95+ db it's getting tougher.

Limit on local tracks is 100dB static at 4500rpm, and that is borderline with the Cargraphic setup I have. Bypass? Forget even showing up to a track, and it would probably be too annoying on the street in the long run.
It's all about getting a high quality, light exhaust that will not be to loud in my part of the world.
