Good question... Is that a standard piece on our cars? My car did not have it and I bought one shortly after purchase. I've seen some GT3 while doing DE Tech inspections with it missing.

The "air diverter" has a couple of scoops that flow air to each side of the trans. It mounts on the cross member (see pics) via plastic tabs and the forward edge attaches to the trailing edge of the big under car panel (see screw in picture)

Hope the pictures help... Should have take a picture of panel when I had it out for a trans oil change... Hope this helps! Lou

I've spent the better part of the last few weeks under my car and it also does not have that piece

Just took these pictures. One shows tabs attaching it to cross bar. Other shows air scoop. I believe the low pressure under the car will flow right into the opening like a ram-air effect.

Spoke to my parts guy this morning, mine is inbound as we speak. I'm glad this thread popped up I never even realized it was missing from my car.

like $40 with the hardware. I have an account with the dealer so that might be slightly lower than retail but not by much.

I used two blind nuts, a couple of screws and washers. See pictures. The real question is, did they come from the factory with it? Or were they tossed out by the service department? Survey says?

Transmission on my car was replaced like 6k miles ago under different ownership, I'm guessing mine disappeared during that service.

It's standard on the 6-speed 996TT. My GT3 came without it.

Part has a successor: 996 504 529 02.

Best,
